With the upcoming MGM boxset and the release of the AMITYVILLE HORROR remake the next week, April will be this year's Amityville month. So what better than the reappraise the series and vote for your favorite installment. Normally I would just make it sequels, but considering that the original is no horror masterpiece, I think the sequels should hold up much better. By any means, vote!
I voted for part 2 because it is the one that is based on actual events. I am still skeptical over the family from Amityville part 1. I think they were all about money. I saw part 2 on HBO when I was around 7 or 8 years old! My aunt was babysitting me and I watched it with her and her friends. The following weekend when it replayed, I asked her if I could watch it again. She said "You just watched that last week!" Ha ha ha, little did she know that I would spend the rest of my life watching the same movies over and over!
I used to like part 2 the best but since last viewing it the ending really hurts it. So i choose part 1. Both films are underrated IMO.
Part II all the way, genuinely creeped me out as a kid. Burt Young plays the abusive bastard quite well and Diane Franklin-Aye Carumba!! Even though the ending is a poor man's Exorcist rip-off the first half is awesome.
i've seen them all, but only remember the original, 4 and Dollhouse (because i have them on dvd), so i voted for the original. I am looking forward to the boxset for 2 & 3.
II was the best. The first one was awful which one was crap but at the end the house just explodes that ending was cool. I've seen one with a clock in the wall and the guy gets rabies that was bad. They are pretty much just terrible (save for 2). The remake looks fantastic though let's hope it can revitalise the franchise.
Amityville 1992 for me. I remember being surprised at how good that one turned out, and I still consider it the most enjoyable of the bunch. I'm a big fan of the first three films too.
For some reason I am also very fond of Amityville 1992. I enjoy the first Amityville and most of the sequels, but it's one remake that I'm actually kinda looking forward to seeing now.
interesting. I only learned there was such a film after reading this thread. I'll have to look that one up.
I like the second one the most. The best parts of the original with a case of The Exorcist thrown in as well.
Part 2 was pretty creepy for its day, I write horror films for a living and I found this sequel actually captured the creepy/sleazy factor that helped the films do so well.
