we're watching it now and my wife says she's counting on your review to be accurate since she can't take these opening minutes either.

I watched Nightmare Sisters just now as well. Kudos to Vinegar Syndrome. It's hard to believe how good the picture quality is in some of the scenes. There is a lot of grain in certain shots but considering how old and low budget this film obviously is it looks amazing. I've seen the film a few times before (long time ago) and know it isn't a "good" movie but it's well worth getting. Did anyone else catch Linnea Quigley's dialog "one stupid zombie picture was enough for me." Simply classic.

I'm not sure, but yes. It seems like there may be a pending dispute forthcoming from one side or the other. I think only the three Stephanie Rothman titles are in question, not David Durston's Stigma.

Vinegar Syndrome had these announced they were working on the Rothman films earlier this year in a few posts, and are also sourcing their scans from the original negatives where as Code Red claims to have licensed the films from Tom Ward and only used theatrical prints for their releases. Vinegar Syndrome say they actually own the rights and that their paperwork also goes all the way back to Dimension Pictures and have Rothman on board.

Now I'm kind of disappointed I sprang for the Code Red bundle. :(

I thought $64.99 seemed really good for 4 Code Red titles, but now I see why. Oh well, at least I upgraded Stigma.

I love how the mindless kiss-asses at Blu-ray.com are saying things like VS is trying to stick it to Code Red. These releases have been talked about in the VS Facebook group for a while, so, when CR had the bundle go up, people naturally started asking questions and VS answered.

None of these is of particular interest to me since I am firmly in the horror camp, but given the choice between original negative scans or a print scan, I'd take the superior quality.

I love Code Red. Love Vinegar Syndrome.

But I do believe VS has made a name for themselves with their superior transfers, though. I watched Nightmare Sisters and Hobgoblins the last two nights and both are stunning, particularly Nightmare Sisters which looks amazing. It looks better than many Criterion discs in my opinion.

I was really impressed with the Nightmare Sisters quality as well. It really isn't a good movie but seeing it in HD really helps out.
