As some of you may know there was a Kickstarter project from earlier this year for the restoration of three lost Herschell Gordon Lewis films (Linda and Abilene, Ecstasies of Women, Black Love) from restoration specialists Process Blue and a few independent parties and having personally contributed to that project I am excited that it's getting nearer to the release of those films. Anyway, because of the overwhelming success and the fact that they want to release more genre films lovingly restored in high definition with complete creative control they've now formed their own label, Vinegar Syndrome. Side note: I love the name, it's the process of 35mm prints deteriorating giving them that distinct vinegar smell knowing that a print is on it's last legs. Obviously they don't have a list of future releases quite yet, but I do know that we can expect some great and lost genre films surfacing as I know a few parties involved in the hunt. Anyway, I'm excited and so should you! Here's the info for Vinegar Syndrome's first release, The Lost Films of Herschell Gordon Lewis, slated for December 11th, 2012: http://www.vinsyn.com
I contributed to their Kickstarter campaign and am pretty excited to see these long-lost flicks, especially in HD. Can't wait to see what's next. (I know about a few titles being worked on already and think exploitation fans will really be happy with this label!) Here's their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/vinsyn
A little info on how Vinegar Syndrome releases will operate via their Facebook: And their second Blu-ray/DVD combo looks like it will be Massage Parlor Murders (1972).
For those who missed their fundraiser campaign, start-up label Vinegar Syndrome's first release, THE LOST FILMS OF HERSCHELL GORDON LEWIS (due 1/8), is now available for mass-market ordering. Compiling three never-on-home-video sexploitation titles from the splatter pioneer, this set represents a major archival achievement in the world of exploitation filmmaking. LINDA & ABILENE (1969) is his legendary lesbian western, shot on a pre-Manson Spahn Ranch. THE ECSTASIES OF WOMEN (1969) is a swingin' '60s Los Angeles comedy/drama. BLACK LOVE (1971) is the director's notorious blaxploitation porno, reportedly filmed for a Chicago Baskin Robbins owner! All restored in high definition from the original camera negatives, the set also features the original trailers and liner notes. It's great to see a new label worth keeping an eye on! Indeed it is -- the company posted a few samples on their Facebook page. Here are some more: Black Love: Linda & Abilene:
Instant purchase for me. Originally these guys were talking BD-R and then no HD at all so I was thinking about passing on these but now they're doing factory pressed Blu-ray's so I have to have it. Just have to have it.

From Facebook: For all you guys that bitch about not enough new obscure horror getting released, you're not paying Vinegar Syndrome much attention.
I love Vinegar Syndrome. I contributed to their Kickstarter campaign, am VERY happy with their "Lost Films of Herschell Gordon Lewis" release, will be picking up DEATH BY INVITATION very shortly, and MASSAGE PARLOR MURDERS is one of my most-anticipated releases of 2013. Keep 'em coming!
April 9th releases: VS-004: Massage Parlor Murders (1974) (Blu-ray/DVD combo) VS-005: Anatomy of a Pyscho (1960) / The Lonely Sex (1959) VS-006: The Suckers (1972) / The Love Garden (1971) May 7th releases: VS-008: The Dungeon of Harrow (1962) / Death by Invitation (1971) Not sure what VS-007 is yet (possibly the Savage Water re-issue), but here's a tentative VS June release: You can check out a brief promo trailer for it over on their Facebook page.
So far, all of Vinegar Syndrome's releases have been way too off-the-beaten-path for me. Just not of interest to me. But I am 100% on board for Punk Vacation! I wonder if other Rae Don titles are in the works, like Dead Girls or Return Of The Family Man?
I imagine VS-007 will be their blu of THE TELEPHONE BOOK (1971), also coming May 7th. In June they're doing a blu of GOOD LUCK, MISS WYCKOFF (aka THE SHAMING, 1979). Never seen PUNK VACATION, but I'd buy it in a heartbeat. If they're doing any other Rae Don titles, I'd love Andy Milligan's THE WEIRDO.
Wow, I don't remember having ever seen PUNK VACATION before, but I'd definitely blind buy the sucker just to see!
I agree, but I have been picking them up regardless. Ha...I just bought Punk Vacation on VHS...didn't watch it yet though. Good news.
VS just posted a photo on their Facebook page of the 35mm negative for Ted V. Mikels' DOLL SQUAD! So expect that in the future!
Extras for THE DOLL SQUAD will apparently include commentary, interviews, trailers and more. Should be a stacked disc. Preorders now up for their May 7th releases: Nelson Lyon's THE TELEPHONE BOOK (1971), an obscure comedy about an obscene phone caller featuring some of the Warhol Factory: Blu / DVD Combo: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...eASIN=B00BYGTN5M&linkCode=as2&tag=cinema09-20 Promo trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lCU2fZYM6o Pat Boyette's THE DUNGEON OF HARROW (1962) / Ken Friedman's DEATH BY INVITATION (1971), a reissue of INVITATION paired with a new remaster of HARROW, a good little exploiter notably difficult to see in nice condition prior: DVD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...eASIN=B00BYGTN7A&linkCode=as2&tag=cinema09-20 Promo trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsW_xZmZ0VQ
The Dungeon of Harrow is one I don't really care much for, so I'll stick with the Savage Water/Death by Invitation DVD. It's good that they are reissuing Death by Invitation though...
