I had Slaughter High pre-ordered, but ultimately canceled it. I just don't like the movie enough to pay over $20 for it. I'm hoping Lionsgate pulls out some more cult classics from the vault that I'm actually interested in. So far I've only picked up Chopping Mall, Waxwork 1 & 2, Blood Diner, Chud II, Return of the Living Dead 3, Lair of the White Worm, and the Warlock collection.
January's titles have been leaked!: Class of 1999: http://www.wowhd.de/class-of-1999/031398277194 Gothic: http://www.wowhd.de/gothic/031398277200
It will be interesting too see what happens with class of 1999, this has been released in Germany but with an SD upscale as a HD print was not available, apart from chopping mall, none of the vestron releases have been struck from new scans, it's all been old prints, I'm interested, but will need reviews before dropping the cash!
I'm interested in both releases, but will wait for a price dip. I just can't pay full price for these titles.
Too bad for class of 1999 we couldn't have gotten the sequel as a bonus feature.I know its crap but still would be a nice addition class of 1999 II the substitute which I still have on vhs.
It's terrible... Feel nothing like the original, and lacks all the fun FX and action, that the first one had. Just a typical shitty mid 90:s DTV sequel. Still curse the day, when I bought the Laserdisc...
Found a nice HD transfer of Class of 1999 on youtube. Sadly suffering a bit "thanks" to the youtube compression. Wonder what disc it came from?
Official announcement for Gothic!: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=299124 Vestron trailer for Gothic:
Info and cover for Class of 1999: https://www.diabolikdvd.com/product/class-of-1999-vestron-video-collection-blu-ray/
Michael Felsher of Red Shirt Pictures posted this over on his Facebook regarding Class of 1999: "Hey everyone, pass this around if you can...I want to clarify that the upcoming CLASS OF 1999 Blu-ray from Vestron is indeed the UNCUT version that was previously available on DVD and on VHS back in the day. This is a new transfer taken from the inter-negative and it matches the uncut version. The R rating on the packaging does not mean that this is a censored edition in any way. So you can all rest easy, those few extra seconds of cyborg-related mayhem are present in the upcoming disc."
I agree Class Of 1999 should have been doubled with the sequel. It's more fun than Waxwork II and some of the sequels Vestron has deemed worthy of inclusion. Hell, it's better than some of their standalone releases.
The sequel, although distributed on VHS by Vidmark (which Lionsgate might own since they acquired Trimark in 2000), was produced by CineTel Films and my guess is they still own the rights since they are still in the game of producing/distributing movies.
No HD scan exists for Class of 1999 2 and Lionsgate didn't want to spend the money on doing a new scan.
I watched the full frame Class of 1999 from my 8-pack DVD. I'd never seen it before, and it seemed prudent to do so before making a decision on this new Blu Ray. It was entertaining enough, but I don't know if I'd want to pay $40 (CAD) to upgrade to HD. I'll pass. I'm curious about Gothic, though. I've never seen it either, but the trailer looks pretty good....
I sought out Gothic a while back as I too was curious. But unfortunately the nugget of truth the story was based on is more interesting than the movie itself. It's no Devils that's for sure.
I'm curious too, and always have been slightly. Oddly enough, the same feeling with American Gothic which proved below a moderately set expectation. Gothic looks like a mix Pan's Labyrinth and Labyrinth (whoa, I'm tripping out as I write this with the correlations), but favoring the cool dark creepy stuff. Initial impression would be seeing the VHS box in the video store with the little gremlin dude - looked lame, haha. Now where's the deals on Slaughter High Blu? I'm getting itchy.
Just a heads up that FYE.com has the Warlock Collection for $17.24 before tax with promo code NOV17CM (25% off + free shipping). TopCashBack users can take an additional 5.5% off.
