Is The Gate just obnoxiously priced everywhere? Lowest I see is $25. It's not $25 purchase for me. It's not about the $$$, just the principle.

Ordered The Gate. It's not about my high school principal either, just about some groovy times with an 80's fave man!

Really, I do not see that at all, especially in caps of faces.

Pretty sure the DVD is digitally sharpened as this would have been shot using a more soft focus/hazy look common of the time period. It's not the greatest scan but the Blu-ray is more authentic to how it should look. You can see all the edges are very harsh/sharp on the DVD which indicates post tinkering: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&d1=9868&d2=9867&s1=95770&s2=95781&l=0&i=1&go=1&x=741&y=182

Yes, so are Chopping Mall and Blood Diner. Makes zero sense. The other Vestrons have lower prices.

I've just been playing around with YouTube when I decided to see if there were any 'the kindred' posts, in particular full movie editions, I found one which had unfortunately been dubbed into Spanish, but what I found intesting was the opening, it was a vestron video logo, is there a possibility this could get released in this series? Anyone know if vestron/lionsgate still own the rights or has that passed on?

Yes, Vestron originally licensed and released it on VHS. But rights for that title have had loose ends for a while as originally Synapse was going to be working on it/releasing it a few years ago but rights issues came up with no clear ownership at that time and it was taken off their slate. If Lionsgate does indeed now own the rights/those issues have been sorted out then yes, it's definitely a possibility for the Lionsgate/Vestron series to re-issue it. But still no news on if that's the case or what is up with that title.

We are talking about The Kindred from 1987 with Kim Hunter and Rod Steiger?

    Yes, original Vestron VHS cover:

Synapse originally had this lined up because they had released Obrow and Carpenter's first feature The Dorm That Dripped Blood but rights ended up being a mystery/still remain a mystery until some company actually sorts it out and announce it.

Such a bummer. I actually really enjoy the film, despite its flaws. The VHS is a hazy mess.

I want The Kindred on DVD or blu...At this point I would settle for either. I really wish it would be released by Vestron. It would be a first day buy for me.

They really kicked it out of the park with The Gate. This really IS the definitive edition that fans of the film have been waiting years for...it is literally packed to the brim with both new (and old) bonus features.

It's a shame that any of the three original lead actors are absent from participating in the bonus materials, but everything else exceeded my expectations. The addition of the vintage featurette was a nice touch also.

The SRP on this one is indeed a tad pricier, but you can tell that a lot of work and quality control did go into this with all the new featurettes and interviews handled by Red Shirt Pictures and Michael Felsher.

Lionsgate have redeemed themselves in my eyes with this fantastic release. Now, hopefully they'll release The Wraith soon! ;)
