Been following this for, jeez, a few months now and it appears Shout goaded Hart into this lawsuit so it'll be interesting to see what comes of it. Shout has essentially challenged Hart's legal claims to the films and that even if she did hold the films the copyrights had not been properly renewed and are therefore in the public domain. That this tactic seems to have brought them to the negotiating table may even mean they're on to something. Worst case scenario with that is the MST3k episodes go out as public domain and the rest of the fallout is Susan Hart's problem.

Reports are yesterday the judge accepted the motion to extend negotiations to March 13th but said she will not extended again. So it's possible we will have a resolution by mid March. If not, then full trial. BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH! ;)

So, I bit on the Shout sale and got
    In the Mouth of Madness
    The Resurrected
    Army of Darkness

AoD was a "throw-in" to get free shipping, but I only own it on LD anyway, never got any of the 72 different releases it saw on DVD. (That said, I have two LD copies: The standard edition from Universal, and the Japanese release with the "Captain Supermarket" title and alternate ending).

Disappointing but not surprising no deleted scenes for April Fool's Day. Still seems a little bit light on special features for a Collector's Edition. Not even a commentary track? It's a personal favorite so I was hoping for more.

A rather popular series of army recruitment films, or so I've been told.

Yeah this release is really weak on the amount of special features. Shame.

A Susan Hart/Shout deal seems unlikely according to film historian Tom Weaver:
    https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/monsterkidclassichorrorforum/viewtopic.php?p=1523067#p1523067

Now while there is a level of legal maneuvering which would mean she is simply trying to dissuade rumors to maintain her positioning in negotiations I suspect this to be the state of affairs; she's not savvy enough to know when she's beat and Shout could very well prove her films to be public domain. However I suspect they'll hold their punches and just stick to fair use. She'll lose, again, and no deal will be made. And any future deal becomes all the more unlikely. This is probably Shout's last shot at it.
