Lazy or cheap company. Media mail should be one of those barely used shipping levels when you read the qualifications.

I’m shocked that Universal aren’t the ones releasing this on UHD here.

I already have the Studio Canal 4K so I’ll likely pass on this but this is great news. I hope they start releasing Scream Factory titles on UHD.

It begins. While Shout's dabbled before, VS's UHD announcements was the tipping point. If an outfit like VS can profit from UHD with small productions then a heavy hitter like Shout can profit from larger productions.

It'll be interesting to see where we go from here. I suspect Criterion will be awhile yet but Arrow must be close to an announcement as well; Second Sight's Dawn of the Dead UHD will not go unanswered in the UK. Blue Underground's recent 4k activity after a long slumber is another indicator they will soon be announcing UHD with I suspect Zombi 2 coming to UHD as early as a year after their 4k remaster (modeled after Synapse's Suspiria release pattern). And Synapse may even release The Blind Dead on UHD at the same time as their Blu-ray released; almost certainly a Steelbook.

An interesting year or two ahead for those following physical media.

As Matt89 mentioned, StudioCanal already released The Deer Hunter on UHD, internationally, so a lot of the heavy lifting should already be done. I wouldn't be surprised if Shout! follows suit with films like The Fog, Escape from New York, Prince of Darkness and They Live, but again, that's low hanging fruit on account of StudioCanal's existing international releases.

I think Tammy and the T-Rex is going to be an outlier for the format, and I'd be hesitant to use that as an indicator for what other labels may or may not be planning. VS probably saves a ton of money, compared to most of the other labels, simply by doing the vast majority of their labwork in-house with their own equipment. They own Tammy..., outright, so no licensing fees, either. It's probably not the best selling title they could've released to the format, but it may be among the least expensive.

I don't know how many 4K discs they pressed but their site says they sold all 6000 blu-ray copies of Tammy and the T-Rex with the slipcover. Who knows how many additional have been sold without the slip. That's an awful lot of interest for this title.

It was 6,000 slipcovers across the two formats, but it wasn't a 50/50 split between the two.

Fair. But they proved their is a market for it. Similar arguments were made over DVD vs. Blu-ray with which titles are economical on what formats. And 4k scans and 4k work throughs are becoming more common. As these costs go down year over year it becomes the new base level standard. UHD is ultimately inevitable for those enthusiasts for physical media over steaming. I'm wondering which will go down first, Blu-ray or DVD.

It'll be interesting to see where we'll be just a year from now. Kino also walked back some of their UHD announcements from last year but are also announcing other potential UHD releases. There's still some calculations being made but the math seems to be working out in UHD's favor.

Candyman is down to $12.99 on that sale, which kinda pisses me off since I just got it for $19.99 thinking I'd never find it lower than that.

Might bite on In the Mouth of Madness and The Resurrected this time though, 'cuz apparently I do not learn from my mistakes.

Unfortunately I missed out on a couple early in the sale, Caged Fury and The Guardian but still managed to pick up a few to get the free shipping. Some great prices on these :D
