Yeah I don't think it's a case of messing with the darkness as much as the original just messed with the brightness.

I love Dead of Winter. This is great news. Will get Poltergeist II and III as well.

That's a common thing that I began noticing with a lot of horror movies in the late 80s, and why the next ten years is a low point in the genre for me. Horror directors all of a sudden had an obsession with making sure that no amount of detail ever got obscured by shadow. Kind of killed the atmosphere, imo, and gave everything a "shot for TV" look. Leprechaun is one of the most egregious offenders and is usually the first I think of, but it's likely one of the reasons I never got into the Chucky movies, too.

Slumber Party Massacre II and III Double Feature Blu-ray:

No interest, they will be the same exact as the dvd from a few years ago, nothing new. other than it claims to be on blu-ray...

Pretty sure Part III at least will be a significant upgrade from the full-frame VHS master used on the DVD.

Well it will be bluray and the picture quality will be better; probably not significantly better but still better. You just seem to always expect miracles when it comes to bluray.

 That just shows how much you think you know. Shout has already stated repeatedly that if they ever did release these two on Blu-ray, new HD masters would have to be created. The ones that were used on the old DVD set were SD masters.

Guess I gotta eat my words about only buying The Thing as a "throw in" down the road. I saw that $21 tag at Amazon and pulled the trigger. Just wish I could get Carrie at the same price. That one's a definite purchase, I'd just like to get it below $25

Carrie was $22.99 on Amazon, but the price must have gone up.

If you're a Barnes & Noble member to get free shipping, wait until after Tuesday and use their 20% off coupon that's valid until November. They have Carrie listed for $21.87 right now, and the coupon will bring it down to $17.50 + tax.

I could do that. Easily. Although I just went to B&N, and didn't see it listed at all. Is that why I have to wait till after Tuesday? I don't mind the wait; I don't plan on watching it anytime between now and Tuesday (it'll definitely get spun before the 31st though, take that to the bank)

Shout has it for $24.93, which is indeed under my $25 preference. By seven cents.

Hmm, it's listed on their site here: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/dvd-carrie-sissy-spacek/3624063?ean=0826663169904

No, it's just that you can't use coupons on pre-orders at B&N, so you have to wait until after the release date to use them on new releases.

Damn, Carrie is $38 on Amazon.ca (we really get fucked with Shout Factory releases - which I don't really understand, they do have a Canadian distributor), but The Thing is $30.99 and that's the lowest I've seen it.

I'm gonna wait until Tuesday and see how much Carrie is in stores. I'm guessing it'll be around $32.99, which is still steep.

    Ugh. Canada. Lol.

Yeah, you're not kidding. My pre-order of Carrie is sitting at $31.49, and I've had it pre-ordered for months. Occasionally one of their SE titles will drop lower (Child's Play is $24.99), but that seems to be about the average. I tend to keep them active, though, since I don't want to buy one later and not get a slip cover (it would drive me nuts if it didn't match the other ones I have). But with the standard releases, I usually cancel my pre-orders if they don't drop below $20. There's no need to get those right away. It's killing me not to have Bad Moon yet, but I refuse to pay more than $20 for it. Considering that they always eventually drop.

I noticed the FALL15 code from DeepDiscount was still active in my shopping cart, so I went ahead and ordered Carrie and The Thing.

    Carrie $17.84
    The Thing $16.99
