Some dudes on Facebook were trashing them on this. I guess Shout was going to try and edit out all those shots (from what I remember, there are a lot) but that's what makes the movie so much fun. I'm glad, however, they chose to just walk away.

Walking away was the best idea. Editing out the footage would eviscerate the film, and remove the 'omfg the audacity' charm of seeing such blatant pillaging. Some folks are saying on FB that surely Universal just won't care about the footage (!) or that Shout should just try and pay licensing fees. One guy argued, along these lines, that Shout should release it with The Last Shark, a title that Universal famously had pulled from release.

While I agree that Shout/Scream should have done more research on this title prior to licensing it, most of the arguments and suggestions on FB show an incredible amount of naivete.

I'm not sure it would be in Shout!'s best interests initiate a conversation with Universal that potentially leads to a copyright infringement case with Universal filing suit against the other licensor.

Universal's also unlikely to sellout Jaws for peanuts (which is all Shout could offer in a deal regarding Cruel Jaws) in a guaranteed move that would piss off Steven Spielberg. You know, that guy who owns Dreamsworks whom they have a daily working relationship with and are putting out their next tent pole Jurassic World with?

I finally received my replacement from Family Video. Bit of a wait, but $8.99 shipped for the UHF blu-ray, I have no complaints (and yes ronnie, it came with the slipcover). Very cool of them to honor this, great customer service. I didn't even have to contact them, they did all the work.

Cool. Hopefully they are doing a new transfer for Escape. That old Studio Canal transfer is bloody awful!

The US MGM Blu-Ray used a different, far better master than the European Studio Canal Blu-Rays did. I'm assuming Scream Factory will be using that master.

I'm a little bummed out that Scarecrows won't be in a double bill anymore. I'm glad it's getting special features but it would have been nice to have an extra film in the package.

I'm relieved Scarecrows is getting its own release. I love the flick and don't want it tainted with that Lyle Alzado shitfest. I think it deserves its own release. Scream can find another piece of shit to double up with Destroyer.

I'm not a huge fan of double features unless they are SUPER logical pairings. Like if there was a Blu of I Drink Your Blood and I Eat Your Skin? Cool. But otherwise, I like my films to be like vinyl albums: a complete experience dedicated to THAT film, with artwork, etc.

Same. As a double feature, i was willing to give it another chance. On it's own, I think I'll pass. I don't know anything about Destroyer, so I guess I'll have to wait and see what it gets paired with.

Depending on the price I might still pick it up but it definitely isn't as enticing without an extra film to sweeten the deal. Whilst the scarecrows look cool I don't remember the film itself being amazing.

Yeah, Scarecrows is definitely not "amazing" but its still a pretty good (and at times) nasty, little flick. I love the atmosphere and mood of the film. Other than the fact that the title characters get virtually no back story, which I didn't have much of a problem with, the dialogue is probably the weakest part for me. But it's a low budget, horror film, so I can live with that

I will be upgrading my DVD for sure.

They could pair it with Neon City, Alzado's last film. I happen to really like that movie, though :)
