I like Alice in Chains... But, seriously: try again, bud. (I'm actually incredibly offended right now. TRY, buck. "All of the Lights" is the fucking "Bohemian Rhapsody," the "Take on Me," the "Smells Like Teen Spirit," the "Paper Planes" of this decade. Try... hard.)
Kayne West is a fucking ass clown. Might be the biggest piece of shit human being to ever be shat out of a womb. Egotistical prick. And that song you mention, All of the lights..... I had to google real quick and I remember that song........ fucking sucks. Just like every other thing he's been apart of.
Incorrect. I don't care about what people think of his behavior. James Woods sucks, does that mean I'm going to stop watching Videodrome? Even though he really should be shamed, in a major way, for being such a jerk? Nope. Seriously, Natas, you're making the ass out of yourself. You know there's a disconnect between an artist and their work. TONS of assholes make great music, movies, television, games, literature, paintings, etc. And I don't care who likes what song, quality is quality. "All of the Lights" is fucking brilliance. Deal with it. If there were a Rotten Tomatoes for music, "All of the Lights" would be rated 100%.
I don't enjoy most hip hop, but I gotta chime in here... Kanye makes some great music. He's f-ed up, but My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was pure excellency.
I've hated Kayne West's music waaaay before he's proven himself to be a piece of shit human being. Even his "critically acclaimed" College Drop Out album, was crazy overrated in my opinion. My girlfriend at the time loved him and I was forced to listen to him many many a car rides. In my opinion he does not make good music, regardless of his character. He makes pop music........not hip hop. I put him in the same category as lil wayne..... repetitive, chorus based tracks...... radio music for the masses. I stick to REAL hip hop from the early-mid 90s. When rap was an actual art form. So I'll reiterate my stance...... FUCK KAYNE. I was at a Wu Tang concert a couple of years ago......and before the show, the DJ just had some filler music playing to pass the time....... a Kayne song came out. The entire crowd starting chanting "Fuck Kayne!!!" for about 2 minutes. It was awesome. If you enjoy his music, good for you......keep on listening.
Uh... thanks for your approval, but you are the one who claimed his musical suckage is directly related to how intolerable he is as a person. That was you. Oooh: you so rebellious. Mr. Non-conformist, anti-establishment. Will be the human race's savior against Trumpasaurus, perfect warrior guyperson? We could really use your powers of awesomeness right about now... I disagree that rap's ever stopped being an artform. What you gonna do now? There goes your "only the masses like Kanye" argument.
Okay so what's the point in arguing over an unpopular opinion in a thread called "unpopular opinions"? I disagree with what Natas said about Kanye on this (although I agree that Kanye is a prick), but we're in an unpopular opinions THREAD. It makes zero sense to argue over someone's opinion here. ~Matt
Actually, it was Mok who mentioned he hated Kanye. First. Natas was responding to me and I naturally took his tone to mean that if I could possibly argue a solid point, I should try. And... everyone knows I tend not to try at all but make the statement that I'm right anyway. That being said... I should backtrack a little and say... I listened to Kanye's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and... squirmed a lot. Tracks like "Monster," "Runaway," and "All of the Lights" - the obvious singles - were the only point in which I perked up and thought: WOW! This is great! The rest of the album felt like a boring dirge. So I can see how other people would hate him, if this is their impression of most of his work. But... damn it: the critics... they said it was so perfect. I'm nothing if not a sellout when it comes to critics. I feel they know what they're talking about, they live here and I'm just visiting. So I tried to see its brilliance. Mostly, I just heard blandness. But in a forceful, inspired-sounding key. Which, again, just serves to make the best songs on the album that much freaking better. I think the album's a dog, based on that one play years ago. But nothing about "All of the Lights"' greatness passed me by. On that note... where's any opinion? There's no room for an opinion when you're experiencing pure perfection. Pure to its core. Its bones. Its heart and soul. Its... add the rest for me, it's been a looong day.
