I put a check next to the ones I own on DVD or Blu-ray and I own 413 of them :)

I have 273 of them on hand in some form or another, and needless to say I've seen a ton of the others. My primary weak spot in my collection is that I don't have a heck of a lot of films prior to 1950, or relatively few from the past decade for that matter. Truth be told there are a lot of movies listed that I don't like enough to own. I feel my own personal collection is a much better selection of films. :)

Dracula took the top spot? No offense to that film, it's definitely one of the best of the Classic era horror films, but number one is kinda WTF. Personally the Wolfman and Frankenstein would rank higher on my list.

This is a pretty good list. Like you guys I don't agree with the order, but it's fairly comprehensive. The actual website is amazing though, I think I found a new addiction!

I rarely bother with lists like these.

    8 Black Christmas
    17 Phantasm
    35 the mummy
    67 Evil Dead 2
    73 Frankenstein!!!!!!!!!!!

    I mean come on..............

I was fine with the list until I saw Scream in front of Jaws. I couldn't read any further after that.

    That sounds about right.

Guys don't think about the order. Would it even be possible to make a list of 500 in order that everyone agrees on? I just think it's a good overall list of the top 500 horror films of all time in NO particular order.

If anything, it's underrated even though some people like to call it overrated or simply don't care much about it. I grew up with that film. It scared me as a kid, it still gives me the creeps these days.

I have no problem with Let's Scare Jessica to Death at that number. I love that film.

...Actually i just checked my top 100 list I made about a year ago and I listed it at #61.

It would be cool if we could find a way put together an official Horrordvd's top 500 or 1000 list that we could update based on votes, similar to the way it's done on Imdb. I'm not sure what kind of software that would require. As it stands It's tough enough to find a top then list we can agree on.

I don't usually bitch about it, but this order is really silly, there's so many masterpieces (some not really horror) that should be in top 100 movies of any genre, but here they don't make it up there. And let's face it, movies like Dracula and Mummy, while historically important, haven't really dated as good as some contemporaries... But I guess the list is a good reference point and probably includes most of genre's finest...

That site is incredibly frustrating. Me and a friend have talked about needing a site like that but it hardly has any movies on it! I got up to 540. I am pretty sure that would triple if they had all movies but they only have movies that have appeared on these lists. Where is Dr Butcher MD, where is Alien Contamination, where is Buio Omega!

Yeah I totally agree. However such lists are normally biased towards more recent films, hence "Drag Me to Hell" being so high. WTF is "Don't Torture Donald Duck"? I've been a massive fan of the horror and sci-fi genres for over twenty years, but never encountered that one!

That's the literal translation title of Lucio Fulci's Don't Torture a Duckling

Many thanks for that - a strange title in any language! I do have the DVD of the film but not got round to watching it yet, despite buying about twelve months ago. I am without doubt a serial waster of money...

The fact that The Exorcist is lower than 28 Days Later makes this list null and void

Haha, I've had it for 3 years and have yet to watch it, so don't feel bad.

No offense intended, but I simply don't get people like you (and I have a close friend that does the same thing). Unless it's something off a pd comp with 50 other films I watch it immediately. I don't understand how people can fall that far behind what they own.
