Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Code Red do a rush job and release a really terrible quality version of this just to block Titan.
Logically based on what we all know of Bill, that makes no sense. To spite someone by releasing inferior product despite believing that it won't sell well? I doubt he'd do something like that.
Rituals was one of those titles Madman Bill refused to release because of bad materials and in the end it was miles ahead of any version available.
Yeah, I was surprised by how good Ritual actually looked. I don´t mind scratches, dirt or print damage as long as it´s from a 16mm or 35mm source, and not a fuzzy and dark VHS transfer.
It´s the only good way to enjoy that kind of movie. A good clean print is the way to go, but the great nostalgic feeling of a drive-in fun or a late nite show is only acquired with some scratches and some print damage.
it seems like Bill had a change of heart, or at least change of philosophy, in regards to print quality. Folks were ok with The Redeemer and Rituals, after much trepidation from Bill. Now, with the recent releases of Night of the Demon and Mardi Gras Massacre, Bill has even used tape masters (likely old DigiBetas, which are still better than VHS). Maybe his contract for The Mutilator expired before this change? It is possible the contract has expired after all. It is also possible the elements really are that bad. And likely not Redeemer-beat-up-35mm bad, or antiquated DigiBeta bad, but VHS work tape bad. If so, maybe Cooper doesn't understand and just wants the film available. OR, maybe he is making money selling the rights to a film he knows is, due to elements, unreleasable, and Mr. Titan is the newest victim. Then again, maybe a print has finally been discovered, Passion of Joan of Arc mental-asylum style. For a great discussion of the nightmares related to hunting elements, listen to Fred Olen Ray's Scalps commentary. He had to sue a German dvd company just to get his hands on a DigiBeta of his own movie. Anyway, here's hoping something does finally materialize, and hopefully with a better transfer than the old VHS sourced Dragon disc. So much work for such a z-grade bit of slasher fun!
Latest from Titan... The Mutilator DVD and Blu-Ray will begin pre-production sometime in the summer. A lot of things are planned for that release, and thus, a great deal of time will be given to the production of the DVD and Blu-Ray. Hurry Guy!
Man I certainly hope it's true! This is one of those times where I'll believe it when I see it come out. :nervous:
if code red doesnt stop the release probably gonna be what's sorta going on with the POPCORN debachle
Has there been any updates on the "other" guys' Popcorn release? I don't know if I want to buy this Mutilator disc...that owner of Titan sounds like a real twat...didn't he threaten suicide after people on the internet called him a bootlegger? Haha! I may pick it up just on sheer curiosity...I want to see these infamous "film elements".
Pre-production starting this Summer and great deal of prep time, huh? Add Bill's likely attempt to thwart the release and we'll probably see this come out sometime in 2017, if we're lucky. I hope all this "prep" will include proper care given to the actual transfer. No sense in putting in time and money into this for extras if the PQ is going to be bad.
Get our hopes up, then probably cancel it all together. I have been wanting Mutilator for years, but I would prefer it on Blu-Ray, since now I have Blu-Ray.
So, I guess this isn't happening then? :eek2: Their old Facebook page is gone it looks like. I guess this is their new Facebook page here ?, but it says nothing regarding it and hasn't been updated since earlier this year.
