Saw it. Liked it. The original was better. I thought Doug was kind of a dick. I really missed the family element as well and think the cannibals were pretty much cardboard cutouts from villains past. A good movie but not great and not really an improvement on the original but a solid remake imo.
www.davisdvd.com has confirmed its june 20th release date and also confirmed there will be multiple featurettes and the behind the scenes documentary still no word about the running time
kinda sucks that only the R rated DVD has both widescreen and fullscreen versions. i really hope that is not the real cover for the dvd. it looks good and all but the unrated logo in blood looks cheesy IMO.
Amazon changed the Unrated running time to 111 minutes, which makes a good deal more sense. I hope that's the case.
well i mean if the film was shot in super35 i'd want both widescreen and full screen just to compare. look at the freddy vs jason dvd, it had both and each version had something different(full screen had more info on the top and bottom and the widescreen had a little more on the sides but cut off the bottom). i dunno call me a completionist or whatever lol, but i think it'd be cool to have both. and if not, i think the unrated version should have a DTS track since it won't have a fullscreen version.
So you guys think this DVD is worth a blind buy? I saw the original film and thought it was alright, nothing amazing though. The trailers/spots I have seen for the remake looked prety good. Kinda reminded me of the TCM remake.
I finally saw this yesterday, and generally thought it was pretty good. I'd rewatched the original about a month ago and almost wished I hadn't because it made most of the first hour or so less entertaining--it was basically the same as the original with some small changes here and there. But when they started moving more into original territory the movie really took off, especially during the last 30-40 minutes. At that point, it really won me over. Still prefer the mutants of the original film, though...they had more personality--their squabbling over the "tenderloin baby" and so on. I think it might have been better if they'd tried to go off into their own direction a little bit more, but this is still probably one of the examples of a remake that worked. Really delivers on the gore, too.
There is a good review of the disc here. It sounds like the extras are going to be pretty impressive, even if we aren't getting that much extra gore. Of course, just a little gore was cut out of High Tension and it made a big difference, so maybe that will be the case here. At any rate, I can't wait for this one.
DVDTalk and others say there is one extra minute, Horrorchannel says 8, and some other reviews I just read say 3. I am so confused. Just give me the DVD already.
