will wait and buy it on apr 6th when it comes out for sale
I went to the local BB last night specifically for this, but was told they didn't even get their own exclusive. Gotta' love that! As one of the few who got to see it theatrically though, I won't complain too loudly.
Mr. Cole, did you rent the Blu-ray? If so, how was the quality?
Quality was excellent, though there is an intentional grainy look that gives it a somewhat retro feel...then this mixed with some interesting surreal hypercolor shots, giving it a unique aesthetic. The look of the film is somewhat reminiscent of early Saw, but only in a few interior scenes. I got over that quickly.
Use of sound / sound quality is superb. Really enhances the creepy, dread-filled atmosphere.
I'll wait until April 6th to see what's on the DVD itself.
Hopefully it's an unrated cut since I hear the filmmakers had trouble with the MPAA.
i know there is an alternate ending/deleted scenes/commentary and music video for special features but not sure it will be unrated and the official specs for the dvd/blu-ray haven't been announced yet
I caught this a few weeks ago...surprisingly good. Although the comparsions to Saw can be made (death by traps/devices), I felt this film built a lot of tension that has not been seen in the Saw franchise for some time. Definitely worth checking out when it lands on DVD April 6th.
Also fans of Californication (Showtime series), will find a small role from the very desirable Madeline Zima in this as well.
Just saw a Blu rip of this and thought it was alright. A bit mean-spirited for my taste, but some very suspenseful scenes and crazy traps/kills.
I'll say one thing, it was VERY gory and graphic. I can't see the cut I saw being anything but unrated.
Very, VERY enjoyable movie. I really liked it and I love to see sequall of this movie, just like the SAW movies.
So if you don't like SAW is there a chance one may not like it?
As I said earlier in the thread, I hate the Saw movies but absolutely loved this. Also, it was quite graphic in theaters. I'm pretty sure the Blu is the same R-rated cut.
This is definitely way different from the Saw movies. There are traps galore throughout the house, but they don't spend minutes dragging out torture and gore. Usually when the main guy runs into a trap (such as the razor wire), it hurts him (sometimes a bit more brutally than others), he realizes he shouldn't go that way, and turns around. I think that's because the point of this guy's traps are to keep the people in the house in and outsiders out, as opposed to Jigsaw which wants the victim to suffer through the process of slowly making their way through the trap. Also most of the deaths are fairly quick, but still quite violent. Still, there are a few scenes that are reminiscent of something you would see in Saw.
This was a very cool movie. I liked the story too, it was a interesting concept.
OK now I want to see it. Hope I can rent it tonight.
Amazon currently has the blu-ray for $16.99. Not bad for a new release.
any reviews for the blu-ray disc anywhere yet or anyone have this or rented it how is the picture quality?
Picked up a used copy online of the DVD.
Commentary was excellent. The rest of the features are meh.
anyone get the blu-ray disc yet if so how is the picture quality
I had the blu-ray pre-ordered from Amazon for $16.99. It still hasn't shipped, it appears to be back ordered. Amazon doesn't even have it available through them anymore, only through third party sellers.
However, if you look at the sellers, there is one on there called "Official Collector Seller" and the description is "100% GUARANTEED DIRECT FROM MANUFACTURER ". The only items this seller appears to be offering are The Collector on DVD and blu-ray.
So from this, I'm assuming that the distributor never sent copies to Amazon, then decided to snipe them through their marketplace? What the hell is going on here?
The sequel is a go:
Anyway, I picked up the Blu yesterday and can't wait to finally watch it again, probably either tonight or tomorrow.
Just watched this tonight and thought it was great. The scenario was a bit hard to believe and the acting wasn't great at times. Saying that the Cinematography and and overall direction made up for that and then some. I just had a feeling throughout that the director was confident in what he was doing. I would like to see what this guy does next.
