When a prank kidnapping turns bitter on Halloween night four friends become enemies as they slowly turn on one another. But things start to get really out of hand when a whispering creepy Clown appears, with intentions to fright and kill ...

Strange but well made little Canadian movie with an early performance by John Candy. Guess what? John was great at playing serious. Image's transfer is not so great though, as it has VHS quality.

Ooh, this looks interesting. I'll have to check around here and see if they have it, perhaps at Fry's. :D

I saw ads for this months ago, advertising an early John Candy performance. Uncle Buck is in my top five films of all time, so I was tempted for this.

    Thanks! I'll check it out.

This movie is bad, bad, bad. I normally like bad movies if they are entertaining, but The Clown Murders is boring as hell. It IS somewhat well made, but only diehard John Candy fans should check it out.

  5. is it good as far as killer clown films go? compare to Clownhouse at all?

It is nothing like a typical killer clown film, more like Kidnapped Coed.
But when the clown finally shows up the movie does plunge into Slasher territory at times.

I saw that Candy was in this, and bought the Interglobal VHS a few year back. Overall, it's a decent flick, but yeah, the main reason to see it is Candy in a dramatic role.

I think I read a write-up for this in the last issue of Rue Morgue. I'll have to check it out.

I rented this last week (VHS) and enjoyed it. Not a bad little proto-slasher. It's slow for the most part, but it had a few creepy moments that make it worth a watch. John Candy is great in it.

The scene in the barn is the best - spooky! But yeah, overall slightly snoozy.

I had this one as a teen on VHS from Starmaker or some other discount line. I tried watching it several times but could never get into it. Soooo boring. I don't even think I made it as far as John Candy's appearance. I guess I should try it again now that I'm older but it doesn't really appeal. Too bad because clowns are one of my guaranteed creep-outs in a a movie.

Really? Well, it has been 20+ years since I tried to watch it but I believe I made it 15-20 minutes into the movie so I suppose I did see him. Honestly, the only thing I remember is being bored.

    That's a very in-depth review

Great that you catalog all the movies you've watched with short descriptions, opinions and posters though - nice work.

Thanks! I leave the longer reviews to the blowhards. I just thought I'd come up with a site that gives the gist of the movie without giving anything away.
