Limited theatrical and VOD on November 16th.

A shocking revelation turns a teenage boy’s world upside down in this chilling look at the evil that can lurk below even the most wholesome surface. Tyler Burnside (Charlie Plummer) is a Boy Scout, a volunteer at his local church, and the dutiful son of an upstanding, community leader dad (Dylan McDermott). Only one thing troubles the quiet Kentucky town he lives in: the unsolved murders—in which ten women were brutally tortured and killed by a psychopath known as Clovehitch—that rocked the community more than a decade ago. When Tyler discovers a cache of disturbing images in his father’s possession, he begins to suspect that the man he trusts most in the world may be Clovehitch—and that his deadly rampage may not be over. With unrelenting tension, director Duncan Skiles crafts a picture-perfect vision of the all-American family—and then piece by piece rips it to shreds.

Looks like a more mature version of Summer Of '84.

I thought this one was really great, and definitely superior to Summer Of '84. Unfortunately, only a fraction of that audience will take a chance on it, since it's not buried in '80s aesthetics and a Bananarama soundtrack. Apparently Kentucky is the horror movie capital of 2018, between The Clovehitch Killer, Tragedy Girls, Mom And Dad, Family Blood, and The Strangers: Prey At Night.

Charlie Plummer is great as the lead, and Dylan McDermott is especially good as the scout leader father who may or may not be the Clovehitch killer. Madisen Beaty was also good as the local teen who is a bit of an expert on the Clovehitch case. It's not an especially gory or scary movie, but there's definitely a high sleaze factor when it comes to the killer's modus operandi. Think bondage porn.

If there was a flaw with the movie, I'd say it's maybe longer than it needed to be, as there's about a 20 minute chunk of the movie that is shown twice (although it's through the perspective of two different characters, so they're completely different but the timelines intersect). I was never bored though, and as a fan of suburban horror, this one definitely does it well.

Being IFC Midnight, I'd expect there will be a blu-ray from Scream Factory. I will certainly be adding it to my shopping list. Between The Clovehitch Killer, What Keeps You Alive, and Lowlife, IFC Midnight is having a killer year of genre movie gems.

    Highly recommended.

I'll check it out. Dylan McDermott is a good actor. He used to play a lot of angry man roles that cracked me up. But he played a hilarious pilot in the recently cancelled LA to Vegas TV show.
