First review is up of Arrow's blu-ray of Argento's Bird With the Crystal Plumage and it seems they've created yet another troublesome transfer. Apparently it was supervised by Vittorio Storaro, but it's cropped to 2:1 from BU's 2.35:1, and we lose quite a bit of information here.

Alright, supervised or not, I think Arrow has made a HUGE mistake on this one. I can deal with color timing on Bay of Blood, and even though BU's transfer of City of the Living Dead has a slightly higher bitrate than the Arrow blu-ray, I really can't tell much of a difference and I actually prefer their transfer of Inferno - BU's looks a bit too dark IMO. However, I think they've really messed up with this one. There are gonna be a LOT of pissed off fans.

yeah, based on that review alone, it looks pretty lousy. the color looks drained out of the arrow release to an extreme degree. the flesh tones in particular look grey.

I just can't figure out why they make these risky moves. They excel at EVERYTHING else, but then their transfers fall short.

Ugh, those colors look terrible on the Arrow transfer. I'm glad I have the BU Blu-ray.

Same here as much I love arrow this release has a lot to be desired. The cropping and colour really spoils the release, Think I will stick with my Blue underground Blu ray.

Arrow announced that this would be cropped a while ago. As soon as I heard this, I quickly picked up a BU release from DVD Diabolik while they had them in stock.

The colors are way off on the release too like Dave mentioned. I can't stand when they fade the colors - very noticeable on the blu-ray releases of Jodorowsky's movies too. :(

Arrow has been making some *interesting* choices as of late...
I really like the company and most of their releases are fantastic, but sometimes I wonder if their heads are screwed on tight. :(
At least I have the BU release.

They've said sometimes they have to buy the rights before they get to see the materials. Thus, when they bought the rights to Bird w/ Crystal Plummage - they did not know it was going to be on the terms that the movie would be cropped.

Fucking A...so pissed I never picked the BU version up. It was in my Amazon "saved for later" list FOREVER!

Why the hell did it go out of print?

Score! Just snagged a copy of the BU blu at a reasonable price of $35! I just asked every price gauger on Amazon if they'd negotiate...most of them said no as they bought the blu themselves at the same price (idiots). One guy acted like it was his holy grail and that he found the thing in some dark crypt buried 300 years ago...if its that near and dear to you, why the hell are you selling it?

    Just glad I'm getting one!
