shit, you beat me to it, I was just about to post that!

For me it was the first time watching all of them except 1 and 3. Those, along with 2, were definitely the best.

4-6 had their ups and down for sure, but at least they were interesting...which can't be said for Origins. I think the person who should be most upset about Origins is the wrestler who "played" the Leprechaun. To see him in the meager making of footage talking about acting with his body movements and eyes...jesus, you just feel sorry for the guy. He was completely unnecessary to the film. They could have made it with a puppet and nobody would have known the difference for all the time you actually saw it onscreen.

I rented this a while back and thought it was pretty good. Only gripe was that it felt a bit too much like a superhero movie at times (same problem I had with Wer), and I hate superhero crap. Other than that, a lot of fun.

    Halloween 4 (HCC disc 6)

Halloween 4 and 5 are the two movies I associate most with the Halloween season because for the past 10-ish years they have played constantly on television (usually AMC) the days leading up to and on the 31st and I'd always make it a point to watch them then. For whatever reason I watched Halloween 4 more critically this time around on blu ray and found it lacking in many aspects I hadn't really considered before.

First things first, I really don't like George Wilbur as Michael here. His walk is terrible, his mannerisms are non-existent, and his body type makes Michael look like a neck-less retard. Seriously, Michael looks like he is afflicted with a perpetual wedgie. It's just not scary.

Nothing is particularly scary in this movie. There are a few thrilling set pieces, mainly the one on the roof, but nothing you could call scary or eerie or creepy. I never liked that Michael's first appearance in the film is a daydream. It kills any build up to the reveal and all suspense with it. The kills in this movie are terrible and the tamest of any up to this point. Almost all of them felt like they were just Michael snapping a neck or squeezing a neck. No gore associated with any of them and had me wondering if I was viewing a television cut.

I like the pace of the movie, I like how focused the plot is how it becomes kind of like a western. The cast is a big step up from Halloween 2.

    I Am a Ghost (2012) **
I’ve never seen anything like it. Well worth the time.

    Puppet Master 5: The Final Chapter (1994) 4/10 **
Puppetmaster’s not so “Final Chapter” is only slightly better than the previous film. The characters are less annoying and the puppets have more screen time. The 10 minute flashback in the beginning was hard to get through. I can’t help but wonder how much better these films would be if Toulon’s puppets were evil.

Curse of the Puppet Master (1998) 4/10 **
A better story and characters than the previous two but the lack of a budget really shows in Part 6. Too many inserts from previous entries and an abrupt ending sour what could have been one of the better sequels. The kills aren’t half bad.

    23. City of the Living Dead (1980)
Incoherent plot , full of mental set pieces and a crazy ending give the perfect recipe for a Lucio Fulci film. Great score and foggy atmosphere more than make up for the lack of common sense. I think this is as good as the Beyond although this seems to be less revered in the horror circle.

    24. I Vampiri (1957)
First time viewing. You can see the seeds been sewn here in Mario Bavas cinematography that is later mastered in his later work. Although there is not a vampire to speak off and I found the characters mostly unlikeable you can see the start of Italian horror right here.

    25. Shivers (1975)
What a great transfer on this new arrow blu ray. Don't think we need parasites to turn into horny zombies, Jack Daniels is just as effective. Just as relevant today as when it was released, we do need to let go of our material possessions and robotic lifestyles and let our base instincts take control a little bit.

Scanners II: The New Order (1991) ~ Not too shabby sequel I haven't seen since first released to video. I remember reading the Fangoria article where they said that three versions of Scanners 2 was being made: A soft TV version (heart attacks instead of exploding bodies), a regular R-Rated version and a gorier version for the Asian market. I sometimes wonder if they actually did film the TV and gorier version. 3.5/5

Did you get a review copy? I assume an 8/10 means you think its one of the best of the series?

23.) Twin Peaks: Season 2, Episodes 19 - 20 (The Entire Mystery blu-ray) - To be honest, both of these episodes were pretty uneventful. The series meanders a bit without the Laura Palmer murder to hold things together. But still, this show is so loaded with characters and atmosphere, it's hard not to enjoy it. 5 / 5

24.) Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers (1989) (blu-ray from The Complete Collection set) - Despite the unintentionally comedic elements of this one, it's still a total blast. I love Tina, I love the entire Tower Farm sequence, and I laugh hysterically at "Cookie Woman". They could maybe shave off about 10 minutes from the first half, but minor complaint. Quality entertainment from start to finish. And after seeing how flat and dull Halloween 4 looked on blu-ray, I was very pleasantly surprised with this blu-ray. 5 discs down, 10 to go. 5 / 5

25.) Mine Games (2012) (DVD) - It's always interesting when two movies are released around the same time that coincidentally have the same plot. This year, we've had four movies released with the same plot: Coherence, +1, The One I Love, and now Mine Games. This one takes the very basic "teens at a cabin-in-the-woods" approach. Very simple, tame, straight-forward. Could have easily been PG-13. Nothing remarkable about this one, but it's very watchable due to the decent production values and a cast that includes Julianna Guill (Friday The 13th remake, My Super Psycho Sweet 16) and Briana Evigan (Sorority Row and Mother's Day remakes). Not a bad watch if you don't mind tame teen horror, but you're not missing anything if you skip it either. 2.5 / 5

    October 13th:

26.) The Strain: Episodes 5 - 8 (FX in HD / DVR) - The show has stayed consistent, very faithful to the books. However, episode 8 took an extremely entertaining detour, easily the best episode of the season so far. Even if you have no intention of watching the show, I would highly recommend this episode. It stands on its own, so you don't need to have seen the previous ones. 3.5 / 5, but 5 / 5 for episode 8.

27.) Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings (2011) (blu-ray) - My favorite of the Wrong Turn sequels. I think a lot of people gave up after 3, but if they did, it's their loss. Gore, girls, and snow. Delivers pretty much everything you could possibly want in a slasher film. The characters make some pretty dumb decisions, but it'd be a pretty uneventful slasher film if they made all the right choices. 5 / 5

28.) Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers (1995) (theatrical cut blu-ray from The Complete Collection set) - I'm saving the Producer's Cut for after I've finished the series. As for the theatrical cut, there are some pretty fun sequences scattered throughout, but the movie as a whole is a bit of a hot mess. Looking forward to seeing what's different about the Producer's Cut, as well diving into the extra features. 6 discs down, 9 to go. 3.5 / 5

    33) Female Vampire: Forget Ed Wood or Uwe Boll, Jess Franco is without a doubt the worst filmmaker in horror cinema. Like the handful of films I’ve seen from him, this is more of a softcore porn parody of a horror film rather than an actual horror film. The plot is almost nonexistent, and all but vanishes by the end of the second act, the “acting” is piss poor, and the direction from Franco is weak. Other than fap material, this film has very little to offer. (2/10)

    34) Vampire Lovers: So far this is the only redeemable vampire film I’ve sat through all month. But after sitting through “Female Vampire” and all its shitty-ness, I can’t help but feel this one is a bit tame on sexual side of things. Even so, it still succeeds by having an entertaining story, a great cast (Peter Cushing is excellent as usual, and Ingrid Pitt is both sexy and despicable as the lead villainess), and a fair amount of gore and nudity. Probably one of better Hammer films to come out of the 70’s. (7/10)

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I love Franco - and if you dig deep enough there are some gems in his filmography. I find him fascinating as a person and a filmmaker.

It could be a torrent. Maybe. I know it's available. Think I'll wait for the blu though I had a quick scan to see what it looks like and it seemed every scene I stopped at had some nakedness in it. Maybe I was just lucky. Couple of good-ish looking gore scenes too.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch. 8/10. Weird and ridiculous, but creepy enough.

The Orphanage (2007): Not terribly scary but an incredibly affecting, heart-breaking film with a nice bit of mystery thrown in.

Freaks (1932): The first 40 minutes seems more of an excuse just to show abnormalities. It felt like I was at a Freak Show. Then I started to like these people and of course hate the ones you're supposed to hate. So, when the end comes it's with a certain amount of glee (and horror) that I watched what these mostly decent seeming people are capable of doing when someone dares to hurt one of their own. It was freakin" creepy, people!!!!

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1920): John Barrymore is creepy but honestly the rest of the movie is not particularly exciting.

The Old Dark House (1932): More laughs than chills on a dark and stormy night. Some fun performances, especially the brother and sister characters and Karloff as a mute monster/butler. Apparently every room in the house is sound proof because no one ever seems to hear what's going on in the room next to them, no matter how loud.

13 Ghosts (1960): The gimmicks are most of the fun here but there's a couple of chills as well. The ending was a little unsatisfying though.
