i was a big fan of Rocky Horror in high school, and I'm pretty sure that the weirdness of it was exactly the reason why. i watched it quite a bit. in fact, the more i'm thinking about it now, the more i want to rewatch it. it's probably been a decade or more since i've seen it, and i don't own it in any form. perhaps i'll keep an eye out for it. maybe i've just got a strange sense of humour, but i find scenes like the "Rocky!" - "Brad!" - "Janet!" - "Brad!" - "Rocky!" bit pretty hysterical. or when the wheelchair bound doctor joins the chorus line at the end and he's wearing fishnets under the blanket. or when Frank-n-furter seduces Brad using the exact same dialogue exchange as he did with Janet. that stuff always makes me laugh.

I don't mean to sidetrack the thread, just wanted to throw a bit of love it's way amongst all this criticism.

Also, I've never seen it in a theater. The idea of people singing along or throwing things at the screen or dancing in the aisles sounds horrible. If I went to see it in a theater, I'd want to watch the movie, not see a bunch of people acting like idiots.

I think this is holds up as a great Halloween time movie - its nothing groundbreaking but it oozes Halloween atmosphere and is a fun little flick

Isolation (2005): I've always been a fan of this movie and enjoyed it again this time. It really is a tribute to Alien but takes place on a farm. Some icky gore and goo, some pretty gross monsters but it lost me a bit in the last 10 minutes.

End Of The Line (2007): Really enjoyed this the first time I watched it but this time around when I started it I was concerned that it wasn't going to hold, up thanks to some hokey dialogue and pretty bad line delivery. Luckily, as the story unfolded I got caught up once again and I remembered why I enjoyed this film.

    Unrated Haunted House Double Feature
Asian Ghost Kids vs. Spanish Ghost Kids

    [IMG][IMG]

The Grudge: Unrated (2004) (Blu-ray) [IMG]

American family moves into haunted house in Japan and become victims of a deadly curse. One of the rare occasions where the movie actually benefits from the unrated version. Creepy and scary, when jittery pale Asian ghost kids were all the rage.

    Darkness: Unrated (2002) (Blu-ray) [IMG]

American family moves into haunted house in Spain and become victims of a deadly occult ritual. Again, this movie works best in its unedited form. Lots of well-placed jump scares and atmosphere. Spanish ghost kids kind of pale in comparison to Asian ghost kids, but the creepiness factor increases by not showing too much of them.

    Rush Week (1991) 3/10 **
When an ambitious student reporter goes in search of an exciting story, involving coeds that have disappeared, she discovers the dark secrets of Tambers College.

RUSH WEEK is ANIMAL HOUSE with a slasher sub-plot tacked on. The biggest problem with the film is that the frat guys we are supposed to be rooting for are so unlikable that you wish they were the one’s being murdered. Unfortunately, they are not. There are only a few kills. Each happen off-screen and are bloodless. The way the story unfolds you are driven to believe the murderer is one of 3 people and it isn’t difficult to guess correctly. The only thing this film has to offer is plenty of top notch female nudity. The first of which comes from one of my favorite b-movie queens, Kathleen Kinmont (Halloween 4, Fraternity Vacation).

    Hide and Go Shriek (1988) 4/10 **
A group of teenagers spends the night in a furniture store for a graduation party. A psycho killer starts to hunt them down and kill them off.

This one started off with some strong potential. The cast of 8 “teenagers” is better than we get in most slashers and the setting feels a lot like that of CHOPPING MALL. Some of the kills are good but one of them is amazing. What holds the film back is that right when the tension in the film should be ramping up, too much time is spent with the small group of “teenagers” just wandering around the store in the dark. It derailed the whole film for me. The kills and some quality T&A made it worth watching once.

    Shadows Run Black (1986) 4/10 **
A detective investigates a series of killings committed by a serial killer known as "The Black Angel." He begins to suspect that it might not be just a random group of murders.

This film was released in 1986 but it was made in 1981. It’s a shame the kills aren’t better because it had potential. The dialogue is horrendous and the acting is wooden but it has enough unintentional humor and gratuitous full frontal nudity to keep it interesting. Check out Thomas T. Sueyres' amusing review (with pics) if you'd like to know more.

    60.) Race With The Devil (1975) 4.5 / 5 (blu-ray)
Action, suspense, Peter Fonda. What's not to love? Win win for me because I love horror movies and '70s car chase movies. Free upgrade to blu-ray too, because I sold my Anchor Bay DVDs of this and Dirty Mary for nearly double the cost each of the blu-ray.

    61.) Halloween (2007) 2.5 / 5 (or 0 / 5 for the first half, 4.5 / 5 for the second) (DVD)
Really conflicted on this one, because the first half is so boring, awful, and trailer-trashy. It doesn't make any sense. Was Rob Zombie trying to be ironic by casting a little blonde girl as the young Michael Myers? Did they do a sex change at Smith's Grove? Michael Myers snapped because nobody would take her trick-or-treating? Were they trying to make it not scary by showing that much of the killer? It just seemed like an excuse to cram in as many genre cameos as possible. Despite the garbage first half, the movie does deliver a rather strong final half. But by then, you're just too bored to enjoy it.

    62.) Lightning Bug (2004) 4.5 / 5 (DVD)
Not a horror movie, but still a really great Halloween movie. I've watched it every October since it was released. Robert Hall is probably better known for his Laid To Rest movies, but I personally think this one is way better. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out.

    63.) Jack-O (1995) 4 / 5 (DVD)
Truly awful movie, but it just cracks me up. I can't not have fun while watching it. My favorite part is the kid being buried alive. "No. No. No. No. No."

    64.) The Hazing (2004) 4 / 5 (DVD)
Really fun and over-the-top low-budget Night Of The Demons rip-off. I'm a big fan of Rolfe Kanefsky's genre films (There's Nothing Out There, Nightmare Man). The guy knows how to make a fun low-budgeter. I hope he does another horror film soon.

    The 'Burbs (1989)

Had a great time watching this; it must have been at least a decade since I last saw it. Tom Hanks is at the top of his comedic game here: his timing, facial expressions, and physical humor elevate the film. Really, the only downside is Corey Feldman, whose hunched-over, nodding, open-mouthed acting turns every scene he's in into a Bill & Ted outtake.

Love this movie. I wish it would get an HD upgrade. The DVD looks like shit. Its not even on par with a youtube rip.

    October 28th: Patrick

Patrick is overlong and it won't have you reaching for a pillow in terror, but I still like it. Favourite scene: One character's attempt on Patrick's life during a power outage. This scene gives the audience the scare it's been waiting for an hour and a half, and while Patrick never gets to apply his powers with the pyrotechnical bravura that Carrie does, this restraint serves the movie well.

I didn't make through this one. The first segment is decent, but the wisecracking coroner and the story of Stacy Keach's hair loss had me fast forwarding through the rest of the movie. It exemplifies why anthologies rarely work for me: The tone is all over the place, and what's worse, the comedic elements are painfully unfunny.

Halloween 4 - The Return of Michael Myers (blu)
Ive always really liked this one -I think 1-4 are all great - 5 is decent but it is where the quality starts to fall to pieces in the series. The picture quality on the blu ray is good but not great.
