Awesome VHS cover. I hadn't seen that one. Damn this needs a DVD release. Scorpion! get on this one please.
I didn't think this was much of a Halloween episode either, that's why I didn't include it on my list. They do need to make a proper horror-themed episode of Bob's, especially since Tina is sexually attracted to zombies

October 17th: Tombs of the Blind Dead A classic in that it gave the world one of the most iconic movie monsters of the decade. And some of the suspense is actually handled fairly well (most notably the attack in the mannequin shop and the final chase). Add to that a spooky, if sometimes overly emphatic score. However, much of the acting is either laboured or overwrought (which is aggravated further by the dubbing). The two leads are fine, though. Verdict: Nostalgic and heavy with atmosphere despite the beauty marks/10

Meanwhile, girls are "running away" without any evidence of their outcome to be found. I thought the films Elvira lampooned were supposed to be turkeys. THE HOUSE THAT SCREAMED is an effective gothic thriller loaded with some excellent performances. The few kills are shocking and the ending caused my jaw to hit the floor. Elvira's Movie Macabre: Maneater of Hydra (Island of the Doomed) (1967) 3/10 ** Cameron Mitchell, playing a mysterious botanist that specializes in meat eating plants, is having a group of people over for dinner. Cameron Mitchell and Elvira were able to keep my attention for quite awhile but I lost interest about the time people started dying off. I just didn’t care for the rest of the cast and felt like I’ve seen similar films done better.
Great movie from the director of Who Can Kill A Child? I wish Elvira hosted more movies like this and Blue Sunshine where they can stand on their own without Elvira. The movie reminded me a little bit of Argento with the murders at a school (ala Phenomena and Suspiria) and the strange teachers and part of it also made me think of May. I would love to see Scream Factory release this with a new transfer. While the Movie Macabre disc is lauded as one of the best out there, I am sure it could look A LOT better.
October 18th 37) Truth Or Die?: The first thing to note about this one is its fair resemblance to another horror film that came out this year (Would You Rather?). Now I thought that film had a better premise and set up than this one did, but the pay off is better here. The first half of the film plays by the standard slasher movie textbook, but the last 30 minutes is where things get interesting. Everything I thought this movie was going to do did the complete opposite. It's the plot twists and alterior motives that make this one worth while. If it wasn't for some of the against the grain moves made with the finale this one would have been skipable, but I think you should check it out. (7/10) 38) Crawl: I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about this movie reminds of the Coen Brother's "Blood Simple." Dispite its 75 minute run time this one takes what seems like forever to move along, and it doesn't help that the story is so painfully average. It's a shame because the directing is fantastic and the lead villain is creepy as hell. This is about as middle of the road as you can get. (5/10) 39) Blood Runs Cold: Yet another generic slasher film. Plenty of gore, but it lacks on everything else. Typical story, boring characters, so-so acting. Don't bother. (4/10)

10.17.13 (22) Fallen (1998) Evil spirit of an fallen angel is trying to kill a Detective by possessing people (and animals) by merely touching them. Original twist on the body-switch sub-genre, smart script, decent cast and a few creepy thrills. Haven't seen since first released so buying the Blu-ray was a good excuse for a re-visit. Underrated Supernatural Thriller.
34.) Toy Story Of Terror (2013) 5 / 5 (TV) This is supposed to be a Halloween special, so I was disappointed that it really didn't have anything to do with Halloween. It's basically just a 30 minute Toy Story sequel. But that's okay by me, I love all things Toy Story. 35.) Witchboard 2: The Devil's Doorway (1993) 4 / 5 (blu-ray) I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I think this sequel is much better than the first movie, even if the murder mystery angle is extremely predictable. The only advantage the first movie has is that beautiful old house. 36.) Lady In White (1988) 5 / 5 (DVD) One of my childhood favorites. I love how they managed to overcome the PG-13 rating by using simple storytelling. If only more films would use this approach nowadays. 37.) Boo (2005) 2 / 5 (DVD) This was my second time watching this, and I really want to like it, but can't. 90% of the movie takes place in an old run down asylum, so visually it is incredibly dull to look at. Plus, the movie itself doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, it's just sort of all over the place. 38.) Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt (2011) 1.5 / 5 (DVD) I thought this was campy fun for the first half, but once the eye showed up it became a hot mess. But I can't say I didn't get a few chuckles out of it. The movie is barely an hour long, and if it were any longer it would overstay its welcome. 39.) Headless Horseman (2007) 3 / 5 (DVD) This is a surprisingly decent little slasher movie for being a SyFy Channel movie. That doesn't mean that it's good, just that it's fairly coherent and easy to watch. 40.) The Hollow (2004) 5 / 5 (DVD) This is such a personal favorite, and I can't even explain why. I've watched it every October since it premiered on ABCFamily, and usually a few times in between. I can probably recite the darn thing. I just think it's incredibly lite, fun, and entertaining. Could use some gore, but still. I love it! Previous movies: 1.) Return To Sleepaway Camp (2008) 2.) The Burning (1981) 3.) Dead Before Dawn (2012) 4.) Jack Ketchum's The Lost (2006) 5.) 10.18.13 (23) The Strangers (Unrated) (2008) (Blu-ray) Young couple with lover's spat spent the remaining night in a family-owned rural vacation cabin after attending a wedding. Shortly after arrival the young couple are terrorized by three strangers wearing masks... Instant scary-classic in my opinion, filled to the brim with creepy atmosphere. Even though the makers claim their film was inspired by the Sharon Tate/Manson murders, I can see how some folks came to the conclusion that The Strangers was based on the infamous and brutal Keddie Murders. Either way, I'm happy I finally bought this on Blu-ray. It was on my to-buy Blu list for years, but for slacking reasons I never got around purchasing it sooner.
