Has Scream Factory mastered anything in 4K yet? I thought they mostly work with whatever masters they're given?

BTW, SF can't be trusted anymore anytime they deny something. We have learned our lessons with the Halloween films first and then NotD and Witchboard.

Not that I'm aware of. I'm not even sure they've been supplied with any 2K scans.

I'll agree that some of their denials have been a little suspicious, but in this case Wynorski said on 08/18/2013 the ink on the contracts was drying. If that's true and Scream Factory was the other party, they probably would have announced it by now.

That would be great, but is this a film who is expensive at the point of letting three films go? I kind of doubt it, but who know...

A pair of new Impulse titles for release on 11/12, including a porn by one of the stars of LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and another installment in the increasingly weird SCHOOLGIRL REPORT series: Fred Lincoln's OUI, GIRLs (1981) and Ernst Hofbauer's SCHOOLGIRL REPORT, VOL. 11: TRYING BEATS STUDYING (1977).

Preorders now up at Amazon. Direct links available at my Upcoming Releases list:

I think I'll put this here for now, when we get more info maybe we can give it its own thread...

Robert Harris has stated that Synapse Films will be putting out Triumph of the Will on Blu-ray:
The original thread was removed but its existence was acknowledged again here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/327039-triumph-of-the-will-thread/

    Spotted this on Facebook:
    2/11/14
    Real Zombies
    Sex Hunter: 1980
    Nurse Girl Dorm: Sticky Fingers

Glad to hear they have a steady revenue stream. If it weren't for retro Japanese porn we might not even have Synapse Suspira Blu-ray in the works! If buying into naked Japanese girls leads to better horror releases that's win-win in my book! :sperm:

Never really thought of it but I've actually ignored most of Synape's lineup over the years - always thought their offerings were too, um "strange". Horror is my main thing, and occasionally I may grab one or 2 extraneous titles like THE WORLD SINKS EXCEPT JAPAN but, yeah, I don't have a whole lot of their stuff. I know they said they won't abandon horror (Scorpion has already hinted at this) but I get the feeling this is exactly what's going to happen.

I've been more aggressive at buying Synapse titles because of their Nikkatsu line. I'll enthusiastically support anyone that releases quality 70's Asian flicks.

I'd love for Scorpion to get in on the retro Japanese as well. There are still many 70's Toei films that need an English friendly release. For the past few years Chiba's WOLFGUY ENRAGED has been at the top of my most wanted list. Please Walter, think about it. :)

I don't think Synapse is going to abandon horror completely, Don and Jerry are both enormous fans of the genre and in the past have been willing to risk losses for films that they really wanted to put out. That being said, their horror output in recent years has shown a divergence that I expect to continue, a divergence where, on the one hand, they have acquired big titles like SUSPIRIA and DEMONS and, on the other hand, they have acquired recent, rinky dink little horror movies like HEADER and what have you. The big titles require a lot of work on their part, but can be guaranteed to sell a certain number of units. The smaller new titles might not sell much, but they also don't require as much work to put out, since the rights holders usually already have videos masters, sound mixes and basic supplements that they can hand over. I think that trend is going to continue. And I expect we'll definitely see fewer releases along the lines of THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, a title which was not nearly as big as a SUSPIRIA or a DEMONS but was of a similar age and required a lot of work on their part.

I was trying, as I had good conversation with Tsuburaya and Toei at AFM but again, it all came down to licensing fee which were still rather high for the way things are right now. :(

I never said I am abandoning horror, I said my horror output is very limited this year, as honestly, all the key non-studio horror titles were licensed out (as I was outbidded on NOTD and WITCHBOARD), and the others are with the major studios, and whats largely left are scraping the bottom type of titles.
