I wonder if this will sell as well now that more people know they're likely releasing a cheaper standard release later on. $40 is really steep considering Grindhouse Releasing puts out similar stacked releases you can grab for around $20-$25.
I think Synapse is counting on the marquee factor of early Argento, which is not an unwise thing. I dropped coin on this and Tenebrae knowing (from the Demons situation) that a regular release WAS coming. But I like the steenboks for these releases.
I pre-ordered it - I skipped the steel books on Demons but I want any of the steel book Argento releases they do - Man, Suspiria cannot come fast enough!
They didn't really drop anything for Tenebrae other than the soundtrack CD, but I have a feeling one of the two Phenomena Blu-Ray discs in the steelbook release won't be included in the standard release.
I missed the Demons steel books as well. Hell, I finally found the regular releases of Demons/Demons 2 on blu from Synapse and bought those. I just bought the standard Tenebre release from Synapse as well and if the soundtrack is the only thing missing, I'm fine with that.
So I was wrong. It's actually $84 CAD with shipping and the exchange. I cannot justify it, that's absolute fucking insanity. It's $46.95 (with shipping included) PLUS another $17 to ship to Canada. So shipping is $23 USD. No fucking way am I paying that. There aren't even many features on it. A commentary and a doc that's been available for years? That's it? It's outrageously overpriced if you don't live in the states. Shitty thing is I still really really want it for the alternate cuts (lol) so I might just have it shipped to my friend's place in NYC and grab it from her the next time I visit. ~Matt
Yeah the exchange rate I can deal with. For some reason shipping to and from the states to Canada is insane. It didn't used to be like that. Amazon.com is the same thing. $6.95 or something for shipping, plus a customs fee deposit for anything over $20. I don't understand it. Like it's CANADA. We're part of the same continent lol. But when you start dealing with border fees etc and all that crap it often makes it not worth it. I'm also contemplating driving with a few friends to Michigan for a day to pick it up. It borders Ontario so we could go on a day trip or something. Avoid shipping costs completely. ~Matt
Seriously. I think of Vancouver and Toronto more like another US State in that I travel there so frequently, have friends/clients there... It's RIGHT there.
All of those customs fees and whatnot with Amazon.COM is done on purpose, I think. They probably noticed that we all chose to use the US site and decided to force us to use .CA by putting in the customs fee. Maybe they had to upon pressure from the Canadian feds. Our government loves to tax the hell out of us, don't they? Now I tend to use neither to buy movies. I don't like using monopolies as it is. When people try to force me in a corner I tend to lash out. In this case, I go elsewhere. Typically the independents. No Walmart bullshit.
That really sucks for those of you in Canada. Hell, I hate Amazon to begin with but I agree with you. If they were going to tax me that much, I'd go to an independent seller.
Less than 20 copies of Tenebre steelbooks left: https://www.instagram.com/p/BMjc1E_D-_L/ Also Don mentions 100-125 steelbooks of Demons are left. I suspect he's literal on that being for Demons, and I'd guess then around 200-250 steelbooks of Demons 2 are left. Pure speculation on my part. And Phenomena looks to be on schedule:
Just got my Phenomena steelbook today- I think the case looks pretty slick. Hopefully I can watch it tonight or this weekend sometime
I received mine earlier today from Synapse. It looks pretty sweet, inside and out. I have the included Soundtrack CD playing right now... which sounds excellent.
Don May, Jr. has addressed this in the past as a rights mess that needs to work itself out, as they have gone as far as they can.
