All of them look good enough to me. The more important difference where Suspiria is concerned is in the audio track, and this clip doesn't acknowledge it.

Interesting. So is there a new Suspiria blu-ray available somewhere that has this new transfer? My Arrow Suspiria can join their initial Tenebrae disc in the bin then... assuming they fixed the horrible contrast issues.

This restoration is being done for an upcoming German Blu-Ray release via '84 Entertainment. The restoration is being handled by TLEFilms, the same company that handled the recent Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator restorations.

I still think the picture on the old Anchor Bay disk looks better than all of these as far as color correction goes. I'm still holding out for the Synapse release which I believe will trump all of them. Don knows what he's doing.

Aha, thanks. I did have a look on amazon.de but couldn't see any reference to a German Blu-ray release.

A Synapse release would indeed be great too.

I checked out amazon.de as well after viewing the clip and couldn't find a listing for it. Third quarter as in September or October release perhaps?

As for Synapse working on their own release, from what I've heard, that may still be at least a year away, but would be well worth the wait I'm sure.

Hopefully. On a sidenote, after 31 years Suspiria was also taken off the German index list of banned movies, so the upcoming Blu-ray should be available for purchase in Germany "everywhere".

Indications are they're still working with that same master from 2007 all previous Blu-rays have been using. So long as many of the problems, like contrast boasting, aren't baked in this could be tempting. It'll probably be a limited release, meaning it could be sold out by the time we get reliable reviews.

I believe Synapse aims to do a full scan of the original elements, however with the closure of Technicolor Rome this is taking time.

But maybrick's hit the nail square on the head, the soundtrack has never been treated right. Judging by how much extra work Don put into the Demons soundtracks I'm expecting we'll have the definitive soundtrack from Synapse's release.

I thought the blue room wire scene looked grey in this German clip they showed. As others said, looking forward to Synapses's - especially after how beautiful Demons turned out.

Am I correct in assuming the Synapse release won't be happening for a while? I haven't heard any updates lately.

I think it's coming late this year, or sometime next year.

My girlfriend gave me her UK Blu-ray recently, so that'll tide me over until it comes out.

    Arrow never released Suspiria.

Yes, you're quite correct. Apologies to Arrow for that... it was actually Nouveaux Pictures.

For some reason I automatically lumped the bad Suspiria transfer in with their bad Phenomena and Tenebrae transfers. Maybe something to do with the sheer awfulness of their first Tenebrae disc, I now subconsciously associate sub standard Argento releases with Arrow. :)

I always thought the over-saturated colours were meant to be part of the film. Those new clips look pretty nice though.

Synapse hasn't even done a single frame of Suspiria yet according to recent Facebook posts, and judging by the fact that Tenebre and Phenomena are taking a least a year (if not longer) I don't think we'll have Suspiria until end of 2015 at the earliest, but I'm hoping for early 2016 and expecting mid to late 2016.

Just look at the time table for the Hammer movies; it took years and years to work through those. Don has many great qualities, speediness is not one of them.

I sent Synapse Films an email asking for an update regarding their restoration process and Don May replied saying they were about half way through, indicating to me that it should be ready sometime in 2016.

Damn, only half way? It seems like forever ago it was announced they'd be releasing Suspiria. At least it should look fantastic once it's finally out.

It wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't get a release until early 2017.
Don May usually delivers top notch transfers, worth the wait.
But I kinda wish that he took on ONE project at the time, instead of doing 4-5 at the same time.
Then he could use all the time and energy to finish Suspiria, and THEN jump on to the next one.
But, yes, at least we finally might get the ultimate version of the movie on disc :)
    Well, until a 4K Blu-Ray release, that is ;)
