For a fan of 80s slashers is this any good?
Like I said above, if you're into SOV 80's slashers, you'll probably enjoy this as it's one of the better ones imo.
If you enjoy extremely liberal uses of slow motion then you will enjoy this. I'm talking what should have been a five second scene of two people walking turns into two minutes of them walking in slow-mo set to soap opera music.
It has some really creepy moments and a good threatening killer. But yeah, there are some definite "acquired taste" bits with some of the video filters and experimentation. Still, I find a lot of charm in that, and it's definitely far off the beaten path, and when it comes to slashers from the time, that's a plus.
Got rid of my big box VHS years ago, so I look forward to having this SOV slasher back in my collection.
I honestly never heard of this before this thread originally popped up. Five or six years ago I would have blind bought in a hearbeat. Not sure if I will ever get to see it, doesn't seem like something netflix would have available.
I've never seen this one, but I don't think I can resist.
I'm off to pre-order it right now.
Doesn't look much better than my VHS. I'll still get it since I pre-ordered it for only like $9 and hope it's a little crisper.
Sweet! They mentioned my friend Clint!
Mine shipped from Borders.
Fuck yes! Just scored one of the Mondo Video VHS of Sledgehammer! Unfortunately for the rest of you it sold out in 13 minutes... But now I've finally replaced the void from when I traded my old VHS to a friend years ago.
But my Amazon DVD pre-order has yet to ship...
I received my DVD from FamilyVideo today. I'm looking forward to checking it out!
I still have my original World Pictures VHS. I dunno if I want to part with it. I saw one go on eBay last week for pretty high - like $60 - $70.
Didn't I sell you my extra copy of that?
Holy crap - one of the Mondo reprint VHS's is up to $100 on eBay - pfffft.
If a reprint is going for that, I wonder what my original will go for
That's just the initial "everything Mondo touches turns to gold" syndrome acting up. Two months from now they'll be selling for less than double, like the majority of their posters.
EDIT: Here's my review of the DVD - http://infini-tropolis.com/reviews/short_circuits-11.html#sledge

Almost plugged in my DVD tonight. After those reviews, I kind of wish I had.
You did. I did a trade with a friend for some other rare VHS over a year and a half ago. Thought I'd spread the Sledgehammer love.
So it's good to fill that void again on the VHS shelf.
