Well, to judge the final (?) part by just your love and memories of the previous movies is kinda stupid, in my opinion. I too am A BIG FAN of the entire Phantasm series, except for maybe fourth, which was REALLY low budget and it showed, but we need to stay objective. And objectively of what little they showed to us in this video - is crap. No, really it is :) Of course most of the fans would like to be in denial and there is still a chance that when we'll see the real trailer we all will be blown away of how cool and quality it'll be. But I have not much hope, unfortunately, yet there is still a chance, of course... }:>

    This.

I love the ending to IV but it's not a proper closure to the franchise.

I doubt this movie had any kind of big budget. More like Asylum cgi, snickers bar and good luck Charlie! To expect this to be awesome or remotely good is insane. Some will love it most will hate it and whine about it. At least in it's own principal merit you got 1 last film.

There is only one long awaited Sci-Fi sequel worth seeing that is coming to theaters in 2015. Star Wars ain't it.

It just occurred to me that what this film needs to hit it out of the park is to bring back James Le Gros for a short cameo. Like do a short "Fringe" type scene where the two versions of Mike pass by each other while traveling through the dimensional fork. That'd be awesome, albeit extremely fan dorkish. :)

    Sure, lets compare a 150M budget movie to a 100K one ;)

It's been longer than that surpisingly. So what are you talking about then?

Let me amend my prior statement:

There is only one long awaited Sci-Fi sequel worth seeing that (features Jawas and) is coming to theaters in 2015. Star Wars ain't it.

If you're talking about Phantasm V then how do you know it's coming to theatres? It looks more likely to be straight to video.

All of Coscarellis films have played theaters, they just don't go wide and get picked up by chains.

But it hasn't been officially announced as a limited release so you're just making assumptions at the moment.

Yes, but given the popularity of the franchise, the likelihood of it getting shown in every major metropolitan area that still retains a theater that caters to a cult/art house crowd to be extremely strong. I'm not a gambling man by nature, but I would genuinely place money on this. Heck, even John Dies At the End maxed at 19 theaters simultaneously. Surely the brand recognition of Phantasm would do better.

I hope it does get a released in theatres. That would be cool but sadly it likely won't show in Australia. :(

And sure no chance for it be shown in Russia theatrically for sure as well :( As even though right now it seems like it will be crap, I'd like to watch at least ONE Phantasm film theatrically.

P.S. And where the Hell is the BD Sphere collection, btw? (I do have Anchor Bay UK's DVD release, so something similar but with good BD presentation would be ablast!)

I have to admit, the Godzilla-sized sphere toppling a building has piqued my interest. :)
