Interesting announcement about Next of Kin. On the Umbrella Entertainment thread several posters mentioned their Deep Discount preorders for the Umbrella bluray release of Next of Kin were cancelled and only the DVD is now for sale on the website. I wonder if Severin's release has something to do with that.

Almost certainly. DiabolikDVD had hinted at this a few weeks back, but didn't know who the distributor would be.

I had forgotten that there were rumors about Severin securing US rights as far back as 2014 or earlier.

UPDATE: After some unexpected delays, the replacement Blu-Rays and CD's for THE CHANGELING are out of replication with our distributor. This means we'll have them on hand and will be able to start the packaging process this weekend. They'll begin to ship on Monday, October 1st and ALL replacements should be shipped out by next Friday, October 5th. We appreciate everyone's patience with this process.

Severin is releasing a box set with the Blood Island trilogy (Brides of Blood, Mad Doctor of Blood Island, and Beast of Blood) plus Terror Is a Man in October - how awesome is that?! There's even a limited bundle with a really cool looking mask.

I'm in for this. I kinda wish they'd done a mask for Anthropophagus instead of that ugly plush toy.

I certainly don't need that Beast of Blood mask but went ahead and ordered the bundle anyway. Thank you for the info Kim.

Well, there is the cheaper bundle without the mask. ;) I just thought the mask looked well-made, and the creature's gnarly face in Beast of Blood was what attracted me to the movies in the first place, so it's a welcome addition for me. I'm sure I'll find a use for it at some Halloween or horror event.

Btw., Beast of Blood is only available as part of the box set, with the other three movies being available as separate releases. What's the reasoning behind that?

I ordered the mask bundle as well. It does look cool.

Thanks so much for the heads up, Kim! I have a feeling that the mask bundle will sell out quickly.

This is a cool announcement, more public domain films rescued! :)

But there's one more film; Brain of Blood. Where is that?

Good question. Maybe Severin couldn't get the rights/materials, or maybe they didn't feel an Al Adamson movie was worth the trouble? :p Still would have liked to see it, though.

I've only seen Mad Doctor of Blood Island, which I remember fondly - it's cheesy, sleazy, and gory. Check out the trailer:

Especially since they claim to only be offering 45 of them. Of course you can buy the lesser bundle and mask separately. It just costs more.

The first film I saw from this series was Brides of Blood. I found a poster for this title 25-30 years ago at a convention and I've never seen it since. The first is the standard one sheet. Jungle Fury is the one I've never seen again. IMDB doesn't even list this as an alternate title.

This is fantastic news! Love these movies - good old school fun! I will now sell off my Mad Doctor DVD boxset. Looks like the mask is GONE!!!! That's fine - lol.

The rights shouldn't have been a problem because according to Filmaf, the film is in the public domain. Though the materials like any good film prints might have played a role now that you mentioned it.

Film Aficionado might be wrong about these films being Public Domain, but I don't think there's a rights issue, either. All four films in the box and Brain of Blood have copyright notices and/or renewals on file with the U.S. Copyright Office and the rights to appear to be held by Independent-International Pictures Corporation. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that Severin is planning it as part of an Al Adamson set, as they are supposed to be releasing another edition of Adamson's Dracula vs. Frankenstein (also Independent-International Pictures Corporation). It also wouldn't surprise me if there was a film element issue as Severin specifies that the transfers from the box set are "uncut scans from recently discovered film elements".

    A. Incentive to buy the box set.
    B. Weak transfer ala The Beast Must Die! from The Amicus Collection?

Geez, I hope it's not as bad as that. :( Of the three films in the box set I haven't seen, this is the one I am most excited about. It's also the one with the best creature design (though I think the monster in Mad Doctor looks pretty cool as well).

You don't think the Buddha creature from Brides is cool? :D

Cool isn't the first word that springs to mind, no... Maybe if it had been more articulate and better painted. ;) That's not to say I won't find Brides charming, though.
