In the vein of great oil rig monster movies, like THE INTRUDER WITHIN and PROTEUS, comes South Korea's SECTOR 7! I want to see this VERY badly. Opens up this summer in South Korea.

Yes agreed, I LOVE sea monster movies. The concept is very creepy to me, as there are so many unexplored areas of the ocean, depths we cannot possibly yet reach, anything could be down there. I think sea monsters are a bit overlooked in the movie monster genre, and not just giant killer shark, giant killer octopuss, etc etc NEW alien creatures. I hope this flick delivers.

 

Yeah, there are never enough sea monster themed movies for me. I don't think they've made a great giant squid movie yet, and those things are terrifying.I would watch a film about a giant killer sea cucumber if one was made !

It sounds like a great concept, but I'm not digging the looks of the monster.

It should be looking something like this:

 

I put TRAILER 2 in the opening post. Go watch it! The monster is revealed, well, the head, anyway, and it looks weird. Still don't know what the body looks like. Very cool! Can NOT wait until this hits region 1 DVD.

 

The design, from what I can make from the latest trailer, seams to be a mix of the creature in Leviathan and the one in Deep Star Six, but with a new touch, so that´s all fine with me

 

Looking forward to it! Too bad this will probably go DTV in the States. I'd like to see it in IMAX 3-D.

I appreciate the bone of nostalgia, but a self-destructing oil rig seems pretty dumb, esp. since we've seen what a debacle one going down really is. Besides, I imagine the "very important warning voice" on a Korean rig would speak Korean.

 

They might have just thrown that into the trailer to appeal to us Americans or to cash in on the flick, or something. Either way, I bet that is NOT in the final movie.

 

Hmm, not sure I'm digging the monster design either. Albeit we only got a few fleeting glimpses...it seems kind of, shapeless if that makes any sense, doesn't look like it has a distinct anatomical design like Cloverfield or the Host, just an amorphous mass. Still I hope to be pleasantly surprised with this, still excited for it.

 

Yikes...this was bad. Like, really bad. It's one of those movies; The ones where even 5 minutes in you think "......damnit."

The characters are overblown caricatures who act like buffons, I'm not sure if this is a cultural thing for Korean movies, but The Host had a similar annoying goon who does things that defy all logic; Early on the crew find small unknown organisms which they store in a tank - token buffoon runs in, opens the tank and promptly grabs unknown organism with his bare hand and holds it up to his face because it looked 'cute'.

Terribly green-screened sets everywhere, one scene in particular where 2 of the crew race motorbikes around on the oil rig was particularly painful.

The monster is the worst part, my initial thought of it looking bland and uninspired rang true, it just looks like an amorphous blob, and the CG is on par with a SyFy made for tv movie.

The point where a character is being flung around by the monster like a ragdoll, yet was still able to spot and grab a bottle of acid off a shelf in mid-air, slow motion, and throw it at the monsters head was the breaking point for me, turned it off, didn't look back.

Avoid this one.

That's too bad. I like Asian films and had this on my watch/buy list.

 

Finally saw this film. Have to agree that it was terrible. Reminded me of the bad CGI monsters that continually show up on the sci-fi channel. The DVD box for this film said it was a huge box office success in Korea. I find that hard to believe. Also the film seemed to never end even though it clocked in at a little more than 100 minutes.

 

Don't say I didn't warn ya But yeah, definitely one of the worst movies I've seen in the last decade.
