British label Second Sight has announced that it will release on Blu-ray Peter Medak's thriller The Changeling (1980), starring George C. Scott, Trish Van Devere, Melvyn Douglas, Jean Marsh, and John Colicos. The release will be available for purchase on June 25.

Synopsis: Following the tragic death of his wife and daughter in a car crash, composer John Russell leaves the city and retires to an old mansion in the hope of rebuilding his life. The peace and quiet he craves is soon disturbed however. Unexplained noises are just the beginning. Convinced there is a supernatural presence in the house he enlists the help a local historian. What they uncover is more shocking than he could ever have imagined.

    Special Features and Technical Specs:
    • BRAND NEW RESTORATION OF THE FILM
    • Limited Edition packaging with exclusive 40-page booklet and poster
    • Additional bonus features to be confirmed soon...
I know a few people here have this on there wish list, no details of regional coding at the moment.

This was announced in the US too, not officially but Severin said they have it.

I’ve wanted this for years, the DVDs always sucked too. I’ll definitely be adding this to the collection. This movie scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I still think it’s one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen.

”Did you die in this house Joseph? How did you die? Why do you remain?”

    Creepy shit.

I friggin' love the film... it's easily one of my all-time favorite horror films.

I already have the Second Sight Blu-ray pre-ordered for weeks now, and will most likely get the Severin release also.

Yeah, I am leaning toward getting this one as well, now. If I can talk myself out of it, it will be based on Severin using the original art which is more my thing. The problem is is that if it was Shout Factory, chances are that I would dislike the art work, anyway, so it would be easy for me to stay away. But Second Sight's artwork is pretty nice for this.

    I've seen the movie twice.
Once back in the 80:s, and once in the 90:s.
Both times I wasn't that impressed by it.

But I think I will give it another chance, as my taste in movies have changed a bit since then, and I have a weak spot for supernatural movies like this.
I'll probably go for the Severin release.

I'm still planning on getting both the Severin and Second Sight releases. I friggin' love the film... and already pre-ordered the original (now sold out) Severin bundle.

Blu-ray.com also lists the Second Sight release as having a "outer rigid slipcase" – so I would assume that will be similar to their Assault on Precinct 13 Blu-ray packaging, which was quite nice.

David is extremely well-respected for his authoring / encoding,. He does a lot of work for Arrow, Eureka and Synapse and also did Second Sight's recent Xtro release. so this UK release should have zero issues in that respect.

Amazon's pre-order price for the Severin limited edition is down to $24.99--$3.27 more than the standard edition. I just canceled my pre-order for the vanilla version and grabbed the deluxe.

DVDBeaver have now updated their review and added the Severin release in the comparisons.

It doesn't look like there is too much of a difference, but Second Sight does use 24-bit audio (Severin just uses 16-bit)

Thanks for this. Also looks like, aside from 1 or 2 minor things, Severin has the same bonus features. I will say, SS's artwork is much better, IMO. I love the ghostly painting look of their packaging.

It looks like Severin has a Stills Gallery not included on the SS release, but that's the only real difference in bonus features..unless you count the SS release having the 40-page book + poster.

I just find it bizarre that Severin only used 16-bit audio. I mean the 5.1 track has a 3350 kbps core compared to Severin's 1750 kbps core, and this is a film where you literally want to hear every pin drop. On lesser audio set-ups it won't matter much, but on higher end systems you'd notice a difference if they both came from the same parent source. I'd probably prefer watching it with the original 2.0 track, but even that would benefit from 24-bit audio. Even 16-bit audio "upconverted" to 24-bit via a good DAC would benefit from it.

Oh well, I'm still getting both. I ordered the first Severin bundle already, and the SS is pre-ordered at Amazon UK.

Think I’ll stick with my SS edition. The colours are a bit warmer on the Severin as well, whereas the SS has a bit of a red push. But it’s not enough to get me to cancel my SS order, and it’s very minimal.
