That happens because of elitist reseller pricks are flipping them. Anyone with half a brain can do the math. Most blu rays only have about 1000 pressed it only takes a few months to go OOP. Though some stuff like twilight time goes out of print before it is even released. That also has more to do in part with the same elitist pricks who flip them. I hope Scorpion do some thinking before being so generous. There is a few members that want the blu ray but not all. I would make them exclusively available privately versus offering them on the big cartel. Chances are all the elitist flipping pricks will snag them again!! :fuck:
I just placed an order for Mortuary on blu through Diabolikdvd. I've no idea how close these are to completely selling out, but I knew that it's a limited release and that they were basically the only place to purchase one, and they were down to 4 in stock. I didn't want to take the chance on missing out like I did with HOSR.
Another example of announcing street dates prematurely. And I'm starting not to care - got too many other things to worry about.
Could that one left be the last of the entire 1200 pressed? also: They aren't kidding, it took this long and there are still copies of Mortuary and Island Claws left. So what's the problem? Is it the movie itself, the quality, or the companies marketing of the release? Twilight Time doesn't seem to have this problem. And their Blu-ray aren't cheap.
I didn't realize that they pressed that many. I thought it was only 1000, maybe less. Edit: the listing for Mortuary is now gone from their site. It looks like that may be it.
Twilight Time sells much better known titles, mostly. The last time I saw Mortuary it was on VHS, whereas Fright Night was a big hit, relatively speaking, and thus much more demand. It isn't like TT's Audrey Rose or Believers blus sold out. Plus Screen Archives also has smartly - from a business point of view - created a culture of selling out items and having hot secondary market activity on their soundtracks. I've had friends buy the soundtracks only to flip them for 3x to 4x the price in a few months.
my opinion of course, but why would i want to buy a Bluray of a movie that i already own WITHOUT that much of an upgrade in quality? i'm not saying the Bluray image is bad or anything (it's probably amazing) but my DVD copy of Mortuary looks very satisfactory for me and i don't see buying it again on BluRay will give such an upgrade (OR it should be an absolute favorite) i think they better release a movie on BluRay OR DVD, except maybe for the real big guns that said, on a regular basis i check Amazon UK to see if there are new Scorpion releases (so too for Vinegar Syndrome, Raro, Grindhouse,...)
I think the business is constantly shifting underneath these boutique companies' feet. As far as horror, Twilight Time is a bit player. Scorpion, Code Red, Vinegar Syndrome, Slasher // Video, etc. all have to find that balance of delivering what fans want, gauging the marketplace, not over-pressing stock (that just sits around), AND making some kind of profit. Not easy. There are only so many Suspiria's and Halloween's in the world that we will buy no matter how many times they have been released on home video. I looked into licensing/restoring a film before my kid was born and it's tricky. Rights holders can be difficult. Materials can be hard to find. I live in LA and because of my job I could have probably called in some favors around to get things cheaper and even then it's a TALL order to make a profit. That's why you rarely see me bitch about cost/transfers/lack of extras from the releases of the companies. I'm happy this stuff gets released at all, given the market.
Guess I was right about possibly being the last of it anywhere. (other than ebay sellers) If it wasn't for this post: I would have never bought a copy. (purchased it when it said 2 left) Thanks.
