Seems I've become the bearer of bad news the past two weeks, but the film world has taken a huge loss today as legendary cult film producer and film marketing pioneer David F. Friedman passed away this morning...

From Herschel Gordon Lewis to Don Edmonds to "selling the sizzle, not the steak", Friedman gave us many of exploitation cinema's greatest hits, and was a real showman in the marketing department.

    RIP David.

Damn, that sucks. In addition to being legendary he was also a hell of a nice guy and I always looked forward to meeting him again. All the greats are dropping like flies these days. :[
    RIP

RIP, David. I think this weekend I will have to watch the Blood Trilogy, by H.G. Lewis and Mr. David F. Friedman, Blood Feast, 2000 Maniacs, and Color Me Blood Red.

Very sad news indeed. I think he also was producer of the sequel to Blood Feast, Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat, will have to take that for a spin, also.

Dave Friedman was one of my favorite figures from the exploitation era. I loved his commentaries on the Something Weird dvds. The man was hilarious.
If you haven't seen, the documentary Mau Mau Sex Sex is all about the golden years of Friedman and Dan Sonney and is great. And his book, A Youth in Babylon, was a wonderful look at his beginings. Is a shame he never got around to finishing the story.
    RIP to a true original.
