Such sad and shocking news, It's just been confirmed that Richard passed away early this morning. So young, No further news yet but he posted yesterday that he was feeling unwell. So sad RIP big guy.
I loved this incarnation of Jason, even thought the film itself was not one of the best IMO. That scene where he looks down from the window sans mask is chilling. Brooker did a great job as Voorhees. R.I.P.
i really liked his portrayal of Jason. it was just so...odd. he really seemed like a bit of an animal. i'm thinking specifically of the way he walks back up from the dock after shooting Vera in the eye with the spear gun. His arms are just hanging limply at his sides, its pretty great. sad news.
IMO, he was the 2nd best Jason in the franchise, right behind Ted White from the "Final Chapter." Really sad to see you go Richard, RIP.
RIP, Richard. He was scheduled to make an appearance at Kansas City's Crypticon in August. I really enjoyed Friday Part 3, and me, my brother, and our mom saw it when it was originally released in 1982, and saw the old style of 3D. I just wish that Paramount would re-release it on 3D, but the new 3D, not the old red/blue glasses.
You saw Part 3 in anaglyph 3-D on release? Too bad. We had the far better polarized 3D in our town. Although I like the look of Jason more in Part II, Part III is the most entertaining of the original four film story arc. RIP.
I actually enjoyed the first 4, Part 5 was okay, liked Part 6 more than Part 5. Part 7 and 8 haven't viewed that many times compared to the first 4 Friday The 13ths, even though I have the DVD of all 8 from Paramount, and I do own Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday on DVD. I do own the Blu-Ray of the first 3, but the Blu-Ray of Part 3 is not in 3D. My mom taught me well, concerning horror films. That was pretty much what we saw at the movie theaters from 1978 through about 1985, when the ticket prices were much lower.
Way too young. Him and Steve Dash were my favorites. In part 3 when he drops the spear gun on the dock is exactly why he was a great Jason.
Very sorry to hear this news. Here is a video from Monster Mania 12, where Richard Brooker attended. You can see him talking about how the infamous hockey mask was introduced. His part is about 2:55 in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHp5JSUm7yk
