My apologies if this isn't posted in the correct forum. I've been looking for a portable DVD/Blu-ray player (with attached screen) that has the capability of playing full screen discs in their full screen format. I just went through three models (Sylvania, Insignia, and ieGeek) that have the option for full screen viewings, but still only stretch the image to fill the rectangular screen. Does anyone know of a portable device that can play something like Tales from the Crypt or The Simpsons without warping the image to make it widescreen? At this point, price doesn't matter.
Are you just using the format button on the remote? You might have to go deeper into the menu to change the screen settings.
On my sylvania i used the 16:9 normal (not 16:9 full mode) under tv in the setup menu and it pillarboxed immediately with a vhs rip
I went deeper into the menu on all three. Whenever I changed the settings from widescreen to full screen or to pan and scan nothing changed. It's the weirdest thing, but I'm assuming it's because I'm buying crappy models.
