V/H/S's David Bruckner is being eyed to direct the new movie. No telling whether Paramount and Platinum are going the found-footage route, but with Bruckner on board... probably. http://www.thewrap.com/friday-the-13th-reboot-vhs-director-david-bruckner
If I read that article correctly, this is not a sequel to the reboot but...a new, separate reboot. Why bother? With the exception of the Tommy Jarvis story arch, the entries in this series always liked to do their own thing. There's no need to try and start all over again just because the previous entry had serious flaws.
Well they may class it as a reboot but not actually touch on the origin or only briefly. Kind of like the Incredible Hulk. I just hope its good but I'm worried that the fact they're courting this guy confirms found footage, I just don't get how its gonna work, it just reaks of cheaping out. Please bring back Derek Mears.
Agreed. I really like Derek and how appreciative he is of the series. As for David Bruckner, I still haven't seen The Signal despite buying the DVD on the day it was released. I should probably get on that. Really dug his V/H/S segment though.
Yeah he loves the character, when you watch the one of docs on the 2009 film he's getting really excited as he's been made up as Jason. He has passion, I just hope the studio don't just think anyone can play the role.
Yes because part 8, Jason goes to Hell and Jason X was such masterpieces in comparison Seriously, to me, the remake was far more entertaining than anything after part 4. It was old-school Jason back on the screen, instead of that teleporting zombie machine he became in the later movies. The remake had Jason back in Crystal Lake, butchering stupid teens that was partying and having sex in the woods. How was this any worse than anything before it?? Take of your rose tinted glasses folks
The remake isn't completely terrible. But it does feel pretty lackluster, and thus a bit dull for the most part, despite some great moments. The opening 20 minutes are excellent and like a self contained movie, and then it just limps along from there. That's the problem. Most of the kills are fairly bland and have no build up, thus no surprise, shock or suspense.. At least it didn't shy away from the sex and nudity like plenty of films do today. So I do give it credit for that. Derek Mears was excellent and intimidating as Jason however, so I'd definitely want him to return to the role. With the right director and script, a truly frightening Friday the 13th sequel/follow up could be made. The current remake has the ingredients to make a good scary movie, and they mostly blew it. So I'd rather have Platinum Dunes not involved in the film, or at least any of the writers and producers they had overseeing that project. Since I think their input was what killed the fun potential of the film. 'Jason Lives' was the last truly entertaining and also scary Friday the 13th/Jason movie in my opinion. So if a movie could have the production value, quality and atmosphere of that film or the first three films which I all find suspenseful fun and creepy, I'd be happy.
It's Platinum Dunes, Bobby. You either get that they Make Shit Everytime or you're living in a world of make believe.
Or I could have my own opinion and like some of what they have done. TCM '03 I'm a fan of and I prefer it to the original. Friday the 13th (2009) is one of the best of the franchise and I was really hoping we'd get a sequel. Exactly, PD couldn't win with Friday and tbh its hard to with todays world. We're a right cynical bunch, there's too many people who love to tear stuff down nowadays.
Why do you prefer the remake to the original? I'm curious as to your opinion since I have not heard anyone say this before.
Did not like the remake at all and would prefer just another straightforward camp slaughter movie, but if they want to go the found footage root, whatever, just get it out of your system. I still think a winter-set Crystal Lake slasher would be the best way to go.
No- you clearly live in a world of make believe. You're pretty damn proud of it too. Don't waste time denying it any longer.
I don't exactly think people who were born yesterday should be using the internet. They should at least be potty-trained first.
Paramount's big horror franchise right now is the Paranormal Activity flicks - maybe Jason will make an appearance.
