Here's the meat of the news: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110324/od_nm/us_santo_sex Sweet, I've got the DVD but it's in B&W and obviously cut so I'd love to pick this up if they ever release it. Unfortunately I hear Rise Above's DVD releases of these Santo films did very poorly. Hopefully it'll get a Mexican release at least and I can import that.
WOW!!! I will get this as soon as it's released. I grew up watching these old movies, with El Santo, Mil Mascaras & Blue Demon. Very cool news!!
I have a Santo set with a number of the films in it but they are all full frame.I think it's out of print now.
I've never seen a Santo film but always wanted to. Which ones should I seek out and where can I get copies?
So close yet so far away: http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=13247201 So that bites and is a little extreme as I'm sure for the film festival not much would come from it, but I guess he wants to stop it before it goes further than that. Shannafey, the best stuff was released by Rise Above Entertainment and while out of print is still relatively cheap on Amazon and even eBay (around $10). I recall Santo vs. Frankenstein's Daughter being my favorite.
Hell, I'll just quote the quy: http://thelatarniaforums.yuku.com/sreply/125623/VAMPIRO-Y-EL-SEXO-found- Doesn't sound like much of a legal case to me.
¡Ay, caramba! Santo In The Treasure of Dracula will be coming to Blu-ray, from a 4K restoration, February 9th, 2021! But the bad news is it's VCI: Apparently El Rey Network has been showing it too, but it doesn't appear to be upcoming on their schedule. From what I hear there's been newly commissioned English dubbings for many of these historically undubbed film from Mexico but hopefully VCI will include the original Spanish language versions with English subtitles. Their upcoming Batwoman & The Panther Women may give us a heads up on that. I'm tempted to wait for something better but few VCI releases have a European companion and even fewer of their Mexican releases do. So I may have to buy theirs.
I prefer original language with subtitles as well. It's interesting that the film was shot black and white for the home market and color for the foreign. I've got a few cards from the original Mexican release and a photo from the color nude version. They weren't afraid to show the nudity on the material for the color release.
Batwoman and The Panther Woman do no appear to include Spanish language tracks: http://www.rockshockpop.com/forums/...eature-Coming!&p=216457&viewfull=1#post216457 So it's not looking good for Treasure of Dracula. Hopefully if there's enough blow back VCI will reconsider but with the release in February I doubt VCI will take the steps to reconfigure Treasure of Dracula. Disappointing. I'm torn if I'll buy it or not. If VCI lays an egg maybe they'll leave Mexican films for publishers who care about presenting them faithfully.
That is disappointing news. Subtitles have never bothered me and I prefer to watch films in their original language.
Could it be they dont have the rights to the language tracks? I ordered them with joy, i love vci, and if the dubs awful i will put on the subtitles, mute it, and plays some Ventures albums during it. I grew up on really bad rabbit ears in nowhere so im easy to please
I grew up with "rabbit ears" as well and remember watching movies on a 19" TV. My how times have changed. Since so much obscure (and not obscure) material is available in good quality transfers I generally shy away from poor quality product. With that said I'll still pick up the Santo film as it will be an upgrade from the DVD version I have.
I get'cha but I was referring to sales numbers. Possible, the rights owners could be concerned about sales to Spanish speaking territories. But it's a rare exception that may have more to do with the uncovered Treasure of Dracula than widely bootlegged Batwoman/Panther Woman; each perhaps under the same exact contract license. A lot of English dubbing today is "anime" dubbing that is really only suited for anime audiences so I've found them in discord with other media.
