I liked that release - I remember it being much better than my Wizard Video bootleg VHS...my, how far ZOMBIE has come since then! I think my favorite transfer is the Roan release...the zombies look great.
The latest DVDs from Blue Undergroud/Shriek Show reveal too many flaws in the effects, :)

Took a drive to LA today, and naturally stopped at Amoeba for lasers. To be honest, I was more than a little dismayed. Many LDs I've bought in that exact location were available, but for a lot more. The prices have gone UP. What's up with that? Example: Sid and Nancy Criterion, which I got for $20 a year ago is now going for $30. Even Once a Thief, the John Woo film which was in the $1.99 rack last year now sells for $9.99. Kinda pissed me off.

Of couse, I still walked out with more than a handful of discs:
    Raise the Red Lanten
    Touch of Evil
Raped by an Angel (1 and 2)
    The Buzzcocks Live
Paul Simon - The Concert in Central Park
    Drunken Master 2
Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart in the Land of Demons

    Then, the two major scores:

In the $1.99 clearance bin was Jurassic Park: The Lost World....in DTS!
    and...

    Ring

(The Japanese edition, no subtitles unfortunately, but cool to have such a classic film on laser)

Thought I'd revive this forum. Haven't bought many LDs lately, been trying to put a lid on my buying (LD and DVD both). I got Sorceror a couple of months back, been wanting that one since watching The Wages of Fear.

Tonight, I did a buy-it-now for Sex and Zen 2. Yup, another Shu Qi softcore flick. What can I say? I'm smitten....

I've been out of the game for a bit myself. There is really only a a handful of lasers that I am after and they are all pretty rare and pricey.

If you guys are into DTS laserdiscs, check on eBay. They are cheaper than ever.

Just got from Japan: Run! Puffy! Run!

A video journal of Puffy (AmiYumi) in America for the first time. Driving cross country, with a few of their music videos thrown in. The only LD the group ever did.

    Gentlemen, start your boners.

I just won an auction for a lot of Hong Kong Category III movies (aka hot soft-core porn):
Erotic Ghost Story (1990 Lam Nai Choi)
Erotic Ghost Story 3 (1992 Ivan Lai) No English subs
The Fruit is Swelling (1997 Cash Chin)
The Fruit is Ripe 3 (1999 Cash Chin)
    Growing Up (1996 Cash Chin)
Golden Lotus: Love & Desire (1991 Li Han Hsiang) Gatefold sleeve
Raped by an Angel 2; The Uniform Fan (1998 Aman Chang)
Secret Lover (1995 Cha Chuen Yee)
Sex and Zen (1991 Michel Mak)
Sex and Zen II (1996 Cash Chin)
Sex and Zen III (1998 Aman Chang)
Slave of the Sword (1993 Chu Yen Ping) No English subs
Yu Pui Tsuen III (1996 Lai Kai Keung)

The seller offered to remove unwanted titles to save on shipping. I told him to skip on Raped by an Angel 2, and Sex and Zen I and II, as I already own those LDs. In case he ships them anyway, anyone interested in those two movies? Sex and Zen is classic erotic cinema ("erotic cinema" = "porn you can actually watch with your girlfriend"), and the second one features my favorite, Shu Qi. In case you don't read any of my other posts mentioning my borderline psychotic obsession with her, she's the actress from The Transporter, Jackie Chan's Gorgeous, Three Times, Millenium Mambo, My Wife is a Gangster 3, and the fantastic So Close.

The nostalgia factor has kicked back in for me. I'm back in the game again. I still have a good dozen+ I want to dump, but I'm not going to just toss them either. Luckily I managed to pickup 25 more of my favorite jackets (Chicago One Stop) from ebay recently.

I picked up Blair Witch Project and (2) copies of Wild Wild West on LD. They were $1.00 each with buy-it-now. You are probably thinking the shipping charges were crazy but they weren't. It was originally $5.50 per disc with no multiple item discount listed. I almost paid immediately but decided to wait while I mulled emailing the seller to ask for a discount. Considering the low cost, I wondered if the price was a mistake and I should count my blessings. Well, he sent me an invoice and did discount the shipping. Total cost to me is $10.50 shipped for all three.

Why Wild Wild West? My younger son likes it, so I actually would spin it. Plus it's a 1999 release and thus had a small press run. I would like to pickup as many of the final releases as I can, as long as the price isn't insane.

Why TWO copies? A buddy of mine picked up a player and I figured I would get one for him.

The seller has 400+ feedback with 100% positive, so I'm not too worried about getting ripped off. And now that I just took some time to look through his feedback, I see that he has been selling these two lasers for months now. He must have come into some overstock of them somewhere, which is cool. For anyone interested, he's putting more of them up on ebay for a buck each.

There are still some Japanese lasers I want. I've been eyeballing the Godzilla 1998 Jap. box set (yes, I actually liked the movie), but refused to pay the $50 someone was asking for it on ebay. I'd probably spend ~$30 for it. I'd like to get Waxwork and Return of the Living Dead 2 on Jap. LD, just for collector sake and the fact I love the movies. I'd like to pickup Deep Blue Sea at some point, but that seems to be rather rare. Excluding DBS, I would get all of them now from one source or another, but pricing is too expensive, so I'll bide my time.

I think over the next year I'm going to decide whether or not I want to invest in a better play again. I had the LD-S9 for a while but couldn't justify keeping it. Even now, I can't imagine spending $500 for an LD player when that could get me a PS3/blu-ray player that allows me to play high def. movies at a fraction of the cost.

Are laserdisc owners really that insane?

And finally, I'll agree with Paff that shipping charges on ebay are bullshit for the most part. I mean, if a movie is $1.00 and the shipping is $5.50 for priority (as it was with Blair and WWW), I'll bite. But when the movie is ~$2.00 and shipping is $10.00, that is bullshit. I'd honestly rather $9.99 with $2.00 shipping. I still wouldn't buy it, but WTF?

    Rant over...

I bit and asked the seller how many he had.

100 copies of Wild Wild West and 30 copies of Blair Witch!

I have a copy of Blair Witch as well, one of my "final" discs as the format died. A friend of mine actually has American Pie and South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut.

I've been picking up a ton of lasers. I have three players and finally hooked up my best one to my HDTV just to see how it looks and it looks pretty great. I've been picking up a lot of music discs and horror flicks.

I'm still desperately trying to find the Something Wicked This Way Comes Special Edition disc though. I think that's the only disc I really want.

Deep Blue Sea, baby! Still kicking myself for not picking it up at Sight and Sound just before they went out of business, but I got it for essentially the same price they were selling it for.

Still pondering a buy from that Japanese store. There's def. one title I want that I probably can't resist buying.

Picked up this lost gem on LD! I remember seeing trailers on tv for it, saying to myself, "Fuckin' A, Billy Dee back in action!" Finally watched it on VHS, rental when it first came out.

But now, I got the goods! ;)

A friend of mine is trying to lighten his collection. Mostly common titles, so I only grabbed a few:

    CRITERIONS:
    Dr. No
    From Russia With Love
    Goldfinger
    Robocop

    The Joy Luck Club
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

and to replace rotted titles I already have:
    Blue
    Fletch Lives
