Story's pretty damn simple, what did you miss?
A cult attacks Nic Cage and his girlfriend, who dies at their hands, and he seeks revenge.
It's just shot through the overly stylized lens of a nightmare/dreamscape which I guess can muddle anything you're looking for in the characters and who they are - I assume you're moreso referring to the useless
murderous biker gang who dress like Cenobites
    and things like the
    drug bug
but since the plot is pretty thread bare and minimal it's not hard to make sense of what the movie's about - but it is still a mess so I'm now just blabbering on hahaha.

I wasn't clear. It's my fault, I apologize. I understood the main plot like you laid out. But it was just one long weird drug trip. I can watch just about any type of film. But films like this I really don't enjoy. Especially two hours of it, just too much. Hell I get annoyed when there's a "drugging" sequence in any film, no matter how small. We get it, they are loopy. We get it. I don't need to see what the guy/girl is seeing. Other than that, like you said the gang, stuff is all over the place. It gets needlessly crazy in this film.

Maybe a poor example but Wolf of Wall Street. When DiCaprio was high. Those scenes I don't mind.

If you want trippy. Watch this. Makers of this real commercial were on LSD. LOL

Damn that IHOP song is fucked up :D

When it comes to the movie.
I knew, from watching the trailer, that it would be yet another boring style over substance movie, trying way to hard to be artsy and clever.

I watched this last night and found myself loving it. How refreshing to see something presented in such an original way where the director was not afraid to just throw in a bunch of visual scenes/motifs/ideas without worrying too much about the plot - the feverish mood and atmosphere carry the film. There are numerous things in the movie that were way off the beaten path - those bikers were unlike anything else I have seen in a film.

Also, fantastic acting by Cage in the scene in the bathroom.

That was my biggest complaint with the film. If the plot is garbage or isn't there, I find it hard to get invested.
Hellraiser? They look VERY Cenobite inspired.
I was laughing my ass of in that scene. Seemed like typical Cage overacting to me.

Unfortunately the only time I have available to watch movies these days is right before bedtime. I had to watch half one night and half the next, and drifted in and out of sleep several times. Not that it was the movie's fault necessarily- I'm usually a fan of slow, dark, moody, arty, weird stuff. Most likely I would have enjoyed this if I had gotten to see it a year ago before my TV time was abolished by the birth of my son.

This is the most incomprehensible, outlandish, completely out-of-left-field thing I've ever seen: You have a kid now, Darga?

Yup, his first birthday is on the 18th. Gotta find him a Cheddar Goblin onesie.

Ain't your kid, man. Hair's too short

(for those playing at home, when I first met Darga he had Heavy Metal Hair, like to the middle of his back)

Ha ha! Yeah, my father-in-law (who is bald) keeps calling Jack follicly challenged.

Unfortunately I didn't have any luck finding him a Cheddar Goblin onesie and this action figure on Ebay was just a bit too expensive ($405.00).
