The Mutilator is pretty much a household name within the slasher community and one of the last major slasher classics still missing on fucking DVD, let alone Blu-ray - there's NO WAY this will remain in limbo for very long. Obviously slasher movies are making these smaller labels some money, otherwise we wouldn't be going through this renaissance right now where just about EVERY big announcement this year has been for a slasher title, including the HALLOWEEN series. People are doing 4K restorations, for chrissakes. The Mutilator and The Prey will join the high-def revolution - it's just a matter of time.

Vinegar Syndrome...supposedly, according to rumor...has The Slayer, The Prey, and Funeral Home.

I wish these would move beyond the rumor stage. Vinegar posted a pic of THE PREY's theatrical poster on AV Maniacs not too long ago - maybe that was their way of hinting they had it. I'm just worried about the reason WHY this film hasn't had a DVD release...yet. Anchor Bay was set to put it out on DVD around 2001 but backed out at the last minute because of a lack of proper materials (so they claimed). Never heard of THE SLAYER but I have seen FUNERAL HOME. It felt more like a TV movie it was so subtle. Still would LOVE to have it cleaned up for high-def.

It still seems to be on track for a May release. The exact date has not yet been announced, to my knowledge.

This film has come a LONG way since the video store rental days. I remember sometime around 1998 when I joined a local video store (my first solo membership) just to be able to rent a VHS copy of the film. I was so excited when the clerk handed me the tape and I took it home - couldn't wait to watch it again. Before that I hadn't seen the film since I first saw it in theaters in 1981! Actually, Madman was the first movie I remember watching in a theater - my dad took me to the old Empire theater on 42nd Street where the film was double billed with The Boogens. I was hooked and, soon after, my love affair with horror films began. That VHS rental in '98 started me on a quest to buy a copy of the film any way I could. I wasn't getting anywhere until, in early 2001 (which is when I discovered the internet), Anchor Bay announced the DVD release during the annual "Studio Day" event (remember that?). I still had that DVD until last year when I sold it for $49. Of course, I also had to get the shit-colored Code Red transfer, which I don't regret because it has some cool extras, but I'm very happy that we're getting the blue version again in HD. The long journey to this point is coming to a close :D

Somebody updated the Blu-Ray.com database today and cited the Vinegar Syndrome website as their source. As far as I can tell, the Vinegar Syndrome website states no such thing.

Edit: Actually, I did find it on the Vinegar Syndrome website. It's on one of the slides and does in fact say May 10th.
