How are the Ascot Elite releases on Blu-ray? I've been very curious and from what I read of Downtown I'm itching to see it.

First time viewing for me. Disappointing. I'm quite sure I would have enjoyed it if I would have seen it before back in the days ...

Local Blockbuster closing own sale started at 11am last friday, I got there right at 11am but there was a cue of 100 people. They were savages but I managed to grab a few blu rays for myself and my partner very cheap.

    The International
Predator (the DNR free transfer) finally saw this and it does indeed look much better than the latter DNR'd one.

They're not perfect HD transfers by any means and vary depending on the release but I don't have any complaints and they all look pretty damn good, and a noticeable jump up from their DVD counterparts.

Downtown is one of my favourite Franco flicks, and the Blu-ray is definitely a huge upgrade over the previous DVD which was also cropped 4x3, where as the new Blu-ray is 16x9.

I have a question for people (didn't want to start a new thread)...

I picked up the Drive-In Cult Classics Collection 200 Film Set released by Mill Creek for Christmas. Now of course I wasn't expecting top-notch quality or anything, but the reviews for prior Mill Creek collections seemed decent enough. I was expecting the picture quality to vary greatly and not be so good for the majority of them, but I guess I assumed the problems with picture quality would be of the color timing, artifacts, and other actual physical print-related problems, which at the end of the day I'm perfectly fine with when watching these grindhouse movies.

However when I put the first movie I wanted to watch in (The snake movie Stanley) what I got was terrible picture quality in terms of bit rate. The movie looked like I was watching a youtube video at 180p. Jagged edges everywhere, blocky outlines around characters, and all very inconsistent. I went into the display and it showed the movie was playing at around 2 Mbps. 2! Sometimes it would skip up to 3 or even 4 mbps, but then settle back down around 2.

Aren't Echo Bridge releases slagged on for only being encoded 5.5 mbps? And this is less than half that?! Each dvd is dual sided and has just two movies on each side so I would think they could've done better than this?

I guess I should've just picked up the individual titles I wanted...I had no idea Van Nuys Blvd came with a commentary on a previous double feature release, and of course The Beach Girls in on blu ray now...*sigh*

Not that exciting but had sum HMV vouchers and.got the UK Mad Max boxset on BD. I had been told that part 2 was the R rated cut version and was different to the earlier BD. Couldnt believe that though. Thought the only difference was the inclusion of a lossless soundtrack and better encode.
