La Setta (aka: the sect / devil's daughter): Soavi

I was browsing the films of michele soavi on imdb; I'm a huge fan of Stagefright and loved The Church (on of my all time favourite horror movies). So I found out about The Sect from 1991 and have ordered it. Was wondering if anyone has seen it / is a fan?

Apparently The Church is known as Demons 3 in Japan and The Sect as Demons 4. And over here The Ogre (an L Bava film) is called Demons 3. Talk about cashing in on the original 2 Argento-produced Demons films!!

Out of interest, has anyone seen the Ogre (demons3)? I have a feeling its going to be similar to Graveyard Disturbance which I watched a long time ago and remember thinking there was no gore and it was a pretty dull and boring!

I really like "The Sect" and, IMO, is better than "The Church." I didn't particularly enjoy "The Ogre," though.

Where did you order this DVD from? I've only been able to find the R2 on Amazon UK for about 25 pounds.

That DVD listed at AmazonUK is the Italian release. I've got it, but haven't watched it in a couple years. I remember liking the movie.

You can save a few buck buying it from Italy. DVDLand.it has it for about 24 Euros (includes US shipping). I've ordered from them a couple times.

I don't know anything about this store, but they list it for $29 shipped.

I have one of those Public Domain double features with the Sect and another movie whose name escapes me. I liked the Church better but I really liked the Church even though most think it is boring.
Can't remember the company and don't have time this morning to look but it is in a slim case if that helps.

I've still never seen The Sect, although as a fan of Soavi I've always been interested. It's been years since I've heard anything about this getting a region 1 release unfortunately.

I love The Sect. Great film with more debth than The Church. And I'm a big fan of Alice in Wonderland. I suppose it helps a bit.
Anyone afraid of bugs (or rabbits for that matter ;)), skip this film ;)
    A face ripping movie!

The Ogre is indeed gore free IIRC, but has some nudity. The Ogre himself is loosely based on the Uber Demon from Demonia.
It resembles one of those Goosebumps episodes from the 90s. Actually, all four of those L. Bava films fall in that category.

CG Entertainment (Italy) is putting out a limited (500 copies) edition of this that will be signed by Michele Soavi and include a book but it's only going to happen if they get at least 300 pre-orders. It's expensive (60EUR) and there doesn't appear to be any word on language options. Definitely not for me but I figured some here might be interested:

While this is very cool it surprises me that this title has been released so many times on blu ray already. This is at least the fifth version that I'm aware of. Is this film really that popular?

The 300 pre-order requirement has me thinking that the label is wondering the exact same thing! :]
