Made me go look up my old rating for it, as it was less than even fuzzy in my memory. Other than it involved homicidal chimps. Appears I gave it 3 out of 4, which for me is keeper status but on the fence about doing a Blu upgrade.

No love on here for this one I guess:

And no, the Kino rep has confirmed they do not have Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter.

I'm hoping this has a Rifftrax though.

Also not horror but I was shocked to see the old TV movie "The Girl Most Likely To..." is coming to blu this summer. I know it had a DVD release but even that was out of left field and copies of it seemed to haunt the Big Lots clearance section for years. Written by Joan Rivers it has some really funny bits and a great cast of cult TV/character actors (Ed Asner, Jim Backus, Fred "Gopher" Grandy, Chuck McCann, Ruth McDevitt, Annette O'Toole.) Suzanne Zenor from "The Baby" has a featured role as one of Stockard Channing's tormentors.

    Special Features and Technical Specs:
    • NEW 2K REMASTER OF THE FILM
    • Audio Commentary by Film Historian/Author Amanda Reyes and Film Historian/Author Kier-La Janisse
    • Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature

Wrote this up the other day for my Cinema Arcana FB page:

“It’s time to feed the baby.” Some exciting news from Kino Lorber Studio Classics – later this year, they’ll be giving Alain Robak’s French splatter classic BABY BLOOD (1990) its Blu debut! Hoping to boost attendance with the purchase of a new leopard, a traveling carnival is dismayed to find its freshest attraction deceased the next morning. However, the cat was host to a peculiar parasite, one that frees itself only to slither its way into the uterus of abused circus wife Yanka. Patiently gestating, the creature gives her the confidence to leave – but it also needs fresh blood to survive. As the pair develop a bond, Yanka wonders how far she’ll go to ensure her baby’s well-being. And what exactly is growing inside of her? With its inquisitive, darkly humorous fetus (reportedly voiced by fan Gary Oldman in the English version) and paint-the-walls-red bloodshed, BABY BLOOD was a gleefully gruesome breath of fresh air, replete with arterial sprays, crushed skulls and bodies exploded via excessive aeration. Seemingly coming out of nowhere when it hit tape (slightly edited) as THE EVIL WITHIN, the film managed to find some traction with gorehounds, but never quite grew the cult it deserved – even when Anchor Bay issued it on DVD in 2006. Now years later, Kino have acquired the title as part of their massive deal with StudioCanal; hopefully its HD upgrade will attract a larger audience willing to embraces its feral charms. Extras are slated to include a new commentary from film historians Lee Gambin and Jarret Gahan. Watch this space!

I was hoping Criterion had it. I don't trust Kino to do a great transfer (and speaking of inky blacks Lost Highway's got some inky fucking blacks!) so hopefully Lynch is consulted. But at this point who cares it's finally here!

BTW: Hannibal was announce as their first UHD release back in February. o_O

I kind of figured the Kino release would be passable at best, so it's really no surprise. It was more of a surprise that Criterion didn't get a hold of it first.

What's the actual verdict on the transfer though? I keep hearing it's still a little better than the International Blu-ray transfers, but I'd still like to see some reviews or screenshots somewhere.
