Kino would not have been my first or second guess, but I'm just glad that it's not Twilight Time releasing Rawhead Rex. I haven't seen this movie since the VHS days. Really looking forward to this release!
I sold my old R1 DVD for $85 on ebay, so that's taken care of. I still have a German 16x9 DVD release, but this will surely blow that away.
Haven't seen it myself, but I know it's a not-so-typical Jacques Demy film (Donkey Skin, The Young Girls of Rochefort etc. - Criterion just released a box set of these and some of his other films) though still appears to retain his signature style but from reviews seems to be grimmer than the fairy tale its based upon.
I think I may have to make a rare blind buy. There isnt even a trailer available. A short clip or two, thats it.
Back on topic, I can't wait to upgrade my Rawhead Rex dvd that I've had for ages, Definite pick-up for sure. Might have to sell off my old one before prices plummet.
It was Pioneer/Artisan which was released in '99. I was lucky to have bought it before it went OOP but I better sell it quick before too many people catch wind.
Pioneer also had a short fling with MPI/Geneon when they released The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Special Edition (still the best cover, the most faithful to the original poster) in 1998. Artisan... just like LionsGate, they so infrequently gave a crap about the movies they released (not original titles like Cecil B. Demented which got a great disc, one of their original releases at the time they were releasing films to theater; 1999-2001, around that time). Though I suppose I should just be happy that their Lair of the White Worm at least had an audio commentary.
Nice, I still have that Texas Chainsaw disc as it was one of my first dvd purchases back in the day. I hold on to it for nostalgic reasons like alot of my dvd discs which I find very hard to get rid of even though I upgrade to blu
Eh, not really interested in Rawhead Rex. It's pretty bad, I mean even Clive hates it. I am curious to watch it in 4k as I've only seen a crappy print in the past but I know I'll want to sell it off if I bought it.
It makes sense to keep certain classic horror DVD's- who would want to take them off (one's) hands knowing they're non-anamorphic (in the case of TCM's 98 SE, Anchor Bay's early discs of Dawn of the Dead, Tenebre, Phenomena, Demons 1/2, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Elite's Patrick, Critical Mass's Black Christmas CE and Rabid, MGM's Phantasm SE, fullscreen Child's Play and Pumpkinhead- but, hey, at least they updated those with widescreen DVD's, unlike Warner Bros. with John Landis's Innocent Blood... oh, and Scream - 1996 - has never been anamorphic on DVD in region 1)... Most collectible titles on DVD have serviceable upgrades. I remember hearing that, and have since never forgot it.
Scream has been readily available anamorphically and cheap on blu ray for ages, but if one chooses to be format intolerant then its really nobody else's fault.
