I love how they use great original artwork on the covers - this a huge plus for me. One of the benefits (and payoff) of collecting physical media.

The Kino Lorber insider at Blu-Ray.com posted this message, yesterday:

    http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=13036773&postcount=10916

I think this unplanned announcement may be in response to Fred Olen Ray's own recent announcement on the Justin Beahm Radio Hour podcast that he was planning to release Octaman on Blu-Ray. I have a feeling the film has fallen into the public domain, but it'll be interesting to see how the Octaman release ultimately plays out.

    Octaman has been cancelled.

My guess would be that Fred Olen Ray/Retromedia disputed MGM's rights, as he was apparently in the process of planning his own Blu-Ray release.

Kino Lorber's representative, Misterlime, announced at Blu-ray.com and hometheaterforum.com that they have a licensing deal in place with Disney for over 100 films from the ABC, Selznick, Touchstone and Hollywood libraries.

    The catch...

I don't expect a ton of genre fare, but the deal could potentially include the Kolchak TV films (The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler), The Midnight Hour, Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice? and/or The Spiral Staircase.

Well...that catch is a deal breaker (especially for those who want a US Blu-ray release of Super Mario Bros.). On the bright side, at least the ABC Pictures library can see the light of day on home video again.

Also, for those who were expecting The Heartbreak Kid, I'm afraid ABC no longer owns it:

It's the same deal they have (had?) with Paramount - no previously-released titles are included, severely narrowing the pool. I'm still excited about the deal but I'm keeping my expectations in check.

I guess that means to special edition BD for Tombstone, then...

Some more tidbits for this weekend from MisterLime at HTF:

"We have a cool TV show we acquired from CBS and are planning to release on DVD. We also acquired a great TV show and a mini-series from MGM which we're planning to remaster and release on Blu-ray and DVD. And this current Disney deal includes lots of TV movies, some we'll remaster and release on DVD and BD, others will be either re-released on DVD or released for the first time."

    And...

"We've acquired 5 Bob Hope titles from Fremantle Media and plan to release the following on Blu-ray and DVD.

My Favorite Brunette (1947), Road to Rio (1947), The Lemon Drop Kid (1951), Son of Paleface (1952) and Road to Bali (1952)."

Really excited about the ABC TV movies. MisterLime confirmed that Disney owns Trilogy of Terror. I'd say It's release is a given and the Dark Sky DVD has been OOP for some time. I'm curious if they have the rights to Home for the Holidays (1972) or if it's with CBS/Paramount.

I would love to see a release of Home for the Holidays (1972) - excellent TV movie.

I don't think Spelling-Goldberg Productions was part of the catalog that Viacom acquired when they bought Spelling Entertainment. If the rights were kept by ABC Circle Films then the rights should be with Disney. If not, the Spelling-Goldberg Productions library was apparently sold to Columbia Pictures in 1982, so Home for the Holidays might be with Sony, instead.
