RIP. Met Joe back in 2012 and he was a blast to converse with. He was full of stories and energy, despite being in a bit of ill health then, but was particularly fond of discussing Effects with me which I had brought up as my personal favourite of his roles.

It certainly does, every day it feels, a bad month in horror.

RIP Joe, his death scene from Day of the dead, is still one of the greatest things I've seen in a cinema, you will always be imprinted on my mind!

RIP. I always loved the line "I'm running this monkey farm now Frankenstein and I want to know what the fuck you're doing with my time."

Another one bites it (no pun intended on Joe's part). He played easily one of the greatest villains in cinema as far as I'm concerned. Sad to hear he's gone. RIP

We got to meet Joe Pilato at a horror convention in 2005. Pilato talked to us at length and made a big deal about our niece who was with us and in her Halloween costume. He loved the costume and gave her money out of his wallet. All of a sudden he says to our niece "block your ears, honey" and then starts yelling profanely in character as Captain Rhodes from Day of the Dead. So incredibly cool to us and everyone else at this show as far as we could tell.

We will never forget Joe Pilato both onscreen and offscreen. Rest in peace, Captain.

His portrayal of Rhodes is the scariest part of Day of the Dead for me--no easy task, given everything else in that great film. RIP.

Very sad. Got to meet Mr. Pilato at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors a while back, where he was kind enough to sign my Day of the Dead VHS along with some other members of the cast. Had to be around 20 years ago. Always enjoyed his portrayal of Rhodes and the tension his character brought to the movie.
