Severin's first two 2020 Franco Blu-ray titles revealed, arriving February 25th, 2020! Extremely excited for these two as they haven't been available legitly in North America previously (and two I haven't seen yet either)!
CRIES OF PLEASURE (aka Gemidos de placer) (1983)
Obscure even by hardcore Jess Franco fan standards, it remains the legendary writer/director’s most daring work of his early ‘80s erotic shocker oeuvre: Inspired by Hitchcock’s ROPE, Franco utilized long takes, minimal edits and his beloved Lina Romay at her most extreme for this de Sade-induced saga of violence, depravity and psychosexual mayhem among the amoral elite. Antonio Mayans (aka Robert Foster of DEVIL HUNTER and HOT NIGHTS OF LINDA), Rocío Freixas (THE SINISTER DR. ORLOFF) and Elisa Vela (aka Jasmina Bell of MANSION OF THE LIVING DEAD) co-star in this fascinating Franco rarity from his Golden Films Internacional period, now featuring a 4k scan from the original negative and all-new Special Features.

NIGHT OF OPEN SEX (aka La noche de los sexos abiertos) (1983)
During the same period that he was making the certifiably insane INCONFESSABLE ORGIES OF EMMANUELLE, SEXUAL STORY OF O and CRIES OF PLEASURE for Spain’s Golden Films Internacional, Goya Award winner Jess Franco also wrote and directed this delirious hybrid of sexy caper comedy, EuroSpy suspense thriller, hard-boiled erotic noir, and depraved fetish shocker complete with jaw-dropping girl-on-girl violence. Jess’ equally legendary partner/muse Lina Romay – here at her most lusciously uninhibited – stars with Antonio Mayans (CANNIBAL TERROR), Lorna Green (MACUMBA SEXUAL), Albino Graziani (MANSION OF THE LIVING DEAD) and even Jess himself in this “fast-moving and slyly humorous” (El Franconomicon) rarity, now scanned in 4k from the original negative with all-new Special Features.

Also available in the Open Pleasure Bundle together for a discounted price, plus the Severin Films Hall of Fame Enamel Pin #12: Lina Romay!

Neurosis (aka Revenge in the House of Usher, 1985)
Written and directed by Jess Franco
Starring Antonio Mayans, Howard Vernon and Lina Romay
In an audacious feat of cinematic bricolage, Jess Franco utilized footage from three decades of filming to craft a unique story that pays homage to the morbid poetry of Edgar Allan Poe, while indulging the director’s personal obsessions. Antonio Mayans stars as Harker (a nod to Bram Stoker’s Dracula), who visits the crumbling castle of his former mentor, Eric Usher (Howard Vernon), now on the brink of mental collapse. Just as the house opens its doors to reveal dreadful, erotic secrets in every corner, Usher delves into his own memories and shares the causes of his increasing madness.
*Audio commentary by film historian Tim Lucas
There are three different versions of this film:
The first one, which is considered the original cut of director Jesús Franco, is called "The Hundimiento de la Casa Usher" ("The Fall of the House of Usher"), and was shown only once on his premiere on Imagfic - Festival Internacional de Madrid de Cine Imaginario y de Ciencia-ficción, on 23 March 1983. Due to the bad reception from the audience - who laughed and booed from start to finish -, Franco could not get commercial distribution of the film. This version is now alleged to be a lost film.
In 1984, the director filmed three new scenes showing the actor Howard Vernon murdering three victims (among them, actresses Flavia Hervás and Helena Garret, who did not appear in the original cut). He then added these scenes to the film, considerably altering the original plot, and creating the second version, called "Los Crímenes de Usher" ("The Crimes of Usher"). It had a very limited release in some Spanish cinemas in 1986.
Finally, the third version was produced by Eurocine and is the only one that had commercial video release with the title "Neurosis/Revenge in the House of Usher". This version eliminates all the scenes shot for "Los Crímenes de Usher" and inserts new scenes shot with other actors (Françoise Blanchard, Olivier Mathot, Valerie Russell and Jean Tolzac, among others), creating a new plot that turns Usher in a mad doctor who keeps his daughter alive with the blood of innocent victims. Also, this cut reused about 15 minutes of footage from an old Franco movie, The Awful Dr. Orlof, as flashbacks of the main character. "Revenge in the House of Usher" is the version that has less in common with the original cut, or even with the short story by Edgar Allan Poe that inspired the film.
Since being release under the Neurosis title - this will be the Eurocine cut of the film. Wish this next tidbit was included as a special feature/alternate cut: (from IMDb) "Brazilian independent filmmaker (and Jess Franco fan) Felipe M. Guerra was responsible for a fan-cut that tried to reconstruct the original director's version of this movie (now considered lost). Guerra used parts of the other two versions, on VHS and DVD, eliminating all additional scenes of each one and keeping the original audio in Spanish. The result was shown in a special exhibition on Fantaspoa - International Fantastic Film Festival of Porto Alegre (Brazil), on May 19, 2016, with the presence of actor Antonio Mayans. After the projection, in a Q & A, Mayans said that this was the first time he saw the film as it was originally conceived by Jess, and thanked Felipe for having "restored dignity" to the project. The Spanish actor also confirmed that the additional scenes of the French version (the only one commercially released until now) were not directed by Jess, but by Olivier Mathot."
In celebration of Jess Franco's birthday today, we're sharing all the details on our upcoming Blu-ray release of CECILIA!
Cecilia, a haughty aristocrat who enjoys taunting her servants with her flawless physique, finds her life turned upside down when she is violated by the victims of her vicious games. This eye-opening experience leads the newly enlightened libertine into a sordid series of swingin’ socialite soirees, mind-bending bohemian happenings, and brazen backwoods orgies. But when her loving husband also embraces this omnisexual lifestyle, and her amorous antics arouse violence in her sadistic suitors, can Cecilia escape the cruel consequences of her own erotic excess?
Also known as SEXUAL ABERRATIONS OF A HOUSEWIFE, this extraordinarily rare entry in the exotic oeuvre of Jess Franco (VENUS IN FURS, SUCCUBUS) features the fabulous Muriel Montossé (THE INCONFESSABLE ORGIES OF EMMANUELLE) at the mercy of Olivier Mathot (CANNIBALS), Pierre Taylou (EXORCISM), Antonio Mayans (SADOMANIA), and even Lina Romay (WOMEN BEHIND BARS). Now this cavalcade of carnal delights has been freshly scanned and restored from its original negative, and presented in all its uncut, uncensored splendor in High Definition for the first time ever!

Full Moon has some exclusive Franco coming to Blu-ray (and disc) for the first time in North America:
Full Moon continues its mission to bring you rare, obscure and in many cases NEVER BEFORE RELEASED IN NORTH AMERICA international cult cinema, fully uncut and remastered from the best available materials to DVD, Blu-ray and streaming! Recently we announced our upcoming BR/DVD releases of the revered Paul Naschy Spanish horror masterpiece ORGY OF THE LIVING DEAD (streaming now on Full Moon Features, available on disc via Full Moon Direct later this month and widely available via other online and retail outlets in the Fall), and today Full Moon is THRILLED to announce the impending release of one of the strangest and RARELY SEEN Jess Franco films ever made, one that bridges the gap between the master of Eurocult and...STAR WARS!
From the studio that brought you ZOMBIE LAKE and PANTHER SQUAD and the director of FEMALE VAMPIRE and BARBED WIRE DOLLS, comes Jess Franco's NIGHT OF THE EAGLES, a stark WWII drama starring iconic genre actors Christopher Lee (HORROR OF DRACULA, THE BLOODY JUDGE and the STAR WARS prequels) and Luke Stywalker himself, Mark Hamill (the original and most recent STAR WARS films).
Lee plays Strauss, a wealthy German businessman whose comely, loving daughter Lillian (Alexandra Ehrlich) is torn between two lovers, Peter (Hamill) and Karl (Ramon Estevez, brother of Charlie Sheen). Unable to choose between her paramours, Lillian's life changes forever when her beaus are shipped off to fight on the frontlines and she is forced to take a job as dancehall singer in a sordid niteclub. With her country and its people torn to pieces by the ravages of war and her once prosperous father relegated to a life of poverty and despair, Lillian must make unthinkable choices in the name of survival.
A sober, sophisticated and far less exploitative latter-day offering from Franco, NIGHT OF THE EAGLES is one of Eurocine's most expensive pictures, made shortly after the studio's perverse 1988 Franco masterpiece FACELESS, and boasts handsome production design, authentic costumes, bloody battles and a magnetic supporting performance by Lee as a man who helplessly watched as his dreams unravel. Full Moon is proud to present this underrated, unique Franco film on Blu-ray for the first time in America, totally uncut and remastered from the original 35mm camera negative.
Full moon promo trailer:
Wow, put that together with their other recent announcement of Orgy of the Living Dead, The Hand That Feeds The Dead and Lover Of The Monster and Full Moon has suddenly become a distributor to watch for digging up some obscure Eurohorror.
