I feel like picking up the DVD but I don't know if this is any good. Its Roger Corman stuff and all, about fish/man monster things.
    Opinions?

I love the original movie that had Vic Morrow in it. If I would compare it to one movie it'd probably be Piranha, from Joe Dante. Then again, those were both Corman productions. Some of the effects look a tad dated in Humanoids now, but the movie is nearing 25 years old.

I really enjoy the original, never seen the remake. I'd grab it if I were you.

I have to agree. When HBO first started up, they showed this a lot.

I love Humanoids too. I believe the effects and creature designs were done by a young Rick Baker. Cool monsters on a rampage flick.

I heard since the film was co-production with UA, that MGM when they released it in DVD in Japan recently, they struck a new master from the negatives, and is apperently much longer in gore. Too bad Corman still controls the US rights.

A very quick scene a the carnival is longer, that's all.

The MGM DVD of the title is also available in Great Britain, though I've heard that the new transfer have a wrong aspect ratio.

I caught up with this one recently. I was left a bit "blah" by it actually. I think it goes on a bit too long for its own good. It's not terrible by any means, and hell, it's a Corman film - so you pretty much know what you're going to get going in. It just didn't get to "classic" status for me.

There is one sequence, that is probably 3 or 4 seconds long, that really works. A monster has broken into the house. In the house wife of a central character. The monster saunters through a door into the living room. That one piece of movement is incredibly eerie and well done. But that's a few seconds in the entire film, that basically isn't quite as amusing as I would have liked. Good, not great, imo.

It's a movie that you almost have to watch more than once to fully enjoy it. The first time I saw the movie I wasn't too impressed either. After seeing it numerous times over the years now, I love it.

The wonders of DVD allow this to happen :)

I'm certainly not writing it off. Death Race 2000, another Corman movie, was far better, imo.

I hear of a lot of problems with the fact that there are two versions of this film.

I do have the uncut Japanese version, which, in retrospect was an expensive blind buy. Mind you, I totally loved it for it had a lot of on screen graphic violence and was entertaining from beginning to end.
