From creator Mike Mignola's FB page: So: R-rated. Neil Marshall The dude from Stranger Things Three pieces of great news!
I'm happy to hear this. Del Torro is a genius when it comes to creature design but his characters can be lacking. Will be interesting to see how this ends up looking. Ron Perlman looked pretty damn good as Hellboy, it's hard to picture anyone else.
Yeah, the first two HB films are fine for what they are: GDT's vision for the character. I had no interest in a third film from the same team. But the comics are far darker and more melancholic. I hope a new adaptation can bring out different elements from the source material.
I've not read the comics myself so picturing a dark Hellboy isn't easy haha. With an R rating they should be able to handle "dark" just fine.
I was a big fan of the first two Hellboy movies and Perlman was perfect in the role. This could be good - but I am disappointed as I would rather have had Hellboy 3 that was pitched for quite a while.
Torn on this Hellboy reboot news. It's about time we got another feature film from Neil Marshall, but there are few things I'm more interested in seeing than a capper to Guillermo del Toro's planned trilogy with Ron Perlman.
Man, I'm conflicted. I love Del Toro but I always felt that he may have been a bit too big a fan of Hellboy to make them work as films. But, with his big budget work, he does seem to be best when he is doing sequels. But, I love Marshall and would be very happy to have him back on the big screen. And, if there's one thing that GoT has shown, it's that since Doomsday he has a good grip on how to do epic.
Kind of interesting to think about what might have been.... http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/05/09/guillermo-del-toros-hellboy-3-that-never-was

Mike Mignola posted to twitter that the new film will feature the BPRD in some manner. http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/ne...the-hellboy-reboot-says-mike-mignola#/slide/1
