Anyone know when the remake is set to come out? I don't care too much about the movie just that it could potentially get the studios to release Fright Night Special Edition and possibly a reissue of Fright Night 2 which is out of print.

i think 2011 is when the remake is coming early reports says the makers would like chris sarandon to return but not as a vampire rather a vampire killer if this happens i will actually look forward to the remake

i too really hope part 1 and 2 get new editions especially part 2 i am 99% sure we will have a new fright night part 1 dvd special edition and probably even a blu-ray when the remake comes out

Huh??? He's a vampire trying to convince his neighbour that he's a vampire?

Surprisingly A-list (well..maybe B-List) cast for this one. So at least it might not be cheap...assuming that's a good thing.

I think I've heard rumors that the remake might be a film-within-a-film -- like Anton Yelchin's character seeking the help of Fright Night star Chris Sarandon to help get rid of Jerry Dandridge.

And Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) penned the remake, so she knows the source material and hopefully deviate it enough to make it fresh.

If this gets us a blu-ray of the original, they can have Jerry Dandridge and Billy Cole auto-tuned to a score by T-Pain for all I care.

Okay, Colin Farrell in the Jerry Dandridge role could potentially be pretty awesome. I loved how the character was portrayed in the original as sexual in relation to so many of the other characters - Charley's mother, Charley's girlfriend, and his own man servant(!) If the remake retains this aspect of Jerry Dandrige, Farrell should do well.

I'd even add Evil Ed to that. In the scene where Dandridge confronts Ed, Sarandon smooth and cool demeanor and Geoffrey's natural effeminate nature make for some strong homoerotic undertones. It almost seems like Dandridge is talking Ed into bed, not a life of servitude as his underling.

Right you are, Grim. I was so focused on that scene with the man servant down on his knees in front of Jerry that I forgot the other homoerotically suggestive constellation.

Toni Collette playing the mom... mmm. Anyone seen her TV series United States of Tara, that's a true Milf in full force.

I like the original, but something new is always good too!

More casting news (source Heat Vision Blog):

David Tennant (Dr. Who) is playing the role Roddy MacDowell played in the original. Only this time, the remake has him reimagined as a Las Vegas magician whose shows revolve around horror-movie imagery. (The whole remake takes place in Las Vegas, I think.)

Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass) is playing Evil Ed, Charley's friend.

This remake has a really interesting cast and director behind it. I might see it out of curiosity.

If this will take place in Las Vegas it will be bad... where?s the feel of old suburbia?

Where?s the suspense of thinking your neighbour is a vamp?
Fuck, in Las Vegas everybody is a vampire...

I'd be all for a remake of this one. I'm in the minority, but i don't love the original as much as most.

The whole Peter Vincent now as a magician is killing me. Really a magician? That is the best we can do with this reimaging? I knew that the casting was probably not going in my favor, but now we have Peter Vincent as David Copperfield! This character was one of my favs. The only good that will come of this remake is a release of the original to Blu Ray.

Love the cast, but I think the Vegas setting kind of kills the whole point of Fright Night.

    A bit more info:

    - Christopher Mintz-Plasse says that the filmmakers are staying true to the original and that it'll be R-rated. (And his character will be a fatso in the remake.)
    - DreamWorks, through their distribution deal with Touchstone Pictures, will release the pic in theaters October 7, 2011.
    - Sandra Vergara (sister of "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara) is playing Tennant's girlfriend; Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later) is playing Charley's girlfriend Amy; and Emily Montague will play one of Jerry's victims.
