With Lions Gate's release of MARTIN, the recent DAWN OF THE DEAD remake and the looming theatrical release of LAND OF THE DEAD, George A. Romero is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance. Zombie films are hot, and what better pioneer is there than George A. Romero. He has done a large body of films, but which one stands out as your favorite. The DEAD films obviously are the most lauded, but how many votes will go towards his smaller, but still highly acclaimed titles?
Dawn of the Dead, but that would be followed closely by: Martin Night of the Living Dead Day of the Dead The Crazies
It's really close between Dawn of the Dead and Martin for me, but after giving it a bit of thought, I chose Martin. The music in Martin is what pushed it slightly ahead for me, it's just so damn good.
Still NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD for me.....my favorite horror film of all time. DAWN would be second, KNIGHTRIDERS probably third with CREEPSHOW very close behind it. Some of his others are okay, but in general his other films just don't approach those four that I've mentioned. I like THE CRAZIES but it's really a rehash of NIGHT in most ways. I used to love MARTIN but recently rented it after not having seen in it about 15 years and thought it was a snore. And DAY OF THE DEAD just doesn't do it for me--I like it better than I once did but still think there's only about 20-30 good minutes in there. Saw THE DARK HALF for the very first time last night. Not good at all...
Dawn of the Dead. Duh. I wonder what DDM is going to pick. He loves them all so much, it is going to be hard for him to narrow it down to just one.
after some deliberation, I went with "Creepshow". tough to pick, when I love all his films so much. I still haven't seen "The Crazies" or "Bruiser", though.
