So what are peoples thoughts on this one? Derivative nonsense, excellent martial arts, somewhere in-between?

Part of me is tired of the apparently endless stream of watered-down sci-fi, but another keeps buying them. I'm clearly part of the problem. Still, there is some good here, I reckon.

A longer review, with screenshots, can be found here.

For those that like it short and to the point....

    So how about it folks?

I just recently caught this for the first time and really enjoyed it as a good action flick.
I didn't go in thinking about what it borrowed from other films or anything like that, but did keep thinking UltraViolet borrowed plenty from this.

I think it's a great film. I really didn't absorb it all until I'd seen it a few times though. Granted, it's not a perfect film, but an interesting take on an alternative-future to say the least.

Kurt Wimmer wrote and directed both Equilibrium and Ultraviolet. The Gun-Kata in Ultraviolet was supposed to be closer to what he wanted in Equilibrium but didn't have the budget for. Unfortunately, with Ultraviolet, the studio messed with it pretty badly and Wimmer has all but disowned it. Though, seriously, I can't imagine that there was ever a good movie in Ultraviolet. :fire:

I saw this in the theater, enjoyed it.It had a nice production design and a solid cast.Although the fight scenes are starting to get a tad familiar looking ,I found this to be an improvement over the later two MATRIX films, which I found somewhat hollow.Perhaps I was just more involved with the story here.In short,I enjoyed it,thought it was a bit underated.

I'd like to see what he TRULY had in mind with ULTRAVIOLET.

It took me three viewings to really appreciate this film. Of course I liked the action scenes the first time around, but the story kind of bored me. Now I think this is one of the best sci-fi/action films ever. I love it!

There are quite a few posts about this film on the forum dwatts!! One of my favorite Scifi films of recent years! It was a sleeper hit I heard about through word of mouth and is well worth a purchase. Though, avoid the director's recent piece of crap Ultraviolet! Lightning didn't strike twice!!

I checked it out after becoming a fan of Bale from American Psycho. I thought it was one of the better sci-fi pics in the last few years, and def. would recommend it!

He approves of the directors cut, though yeah? Or is that disc just unrated, I can't remember.
