Does Tim Burton make original movies anymore?

Stylistically both Depp and Fuest are a good match and both have a penchant for black humor, so if anybody could pull off a decent remake its Tim. I just wish he'd fucking use somebody else other than Depp. For fuck's sake.

As far as I'm concerned, any collaboration between Burton and Depp will never top Ed Wood. That movie was their masterpiece and it's been downhill ever since.

If I heard this 20 years ago, I'd be overjoyed. But, now it seems like Burton's creative sensibilities are seriously askew. So, this news only fills me with dread.

Yeah I liked Frankenweenie but everything else has been pretty mediocre to just bad. Dark Shadows was tough to get through. And as much as I like Depp, I am getting sick and tired of seeing the two of them together.

Why doesn't he create a new story and character in the vain of Dr. Phibes and give us something new? That would be a a better way of showing his appreciation for the film in my opinion, then remaking it and thinking he can make it better.

Exactly. When I saw an article online I thought, "Well, whatever. As long as Tim Burton isn't attached." Then I read the article. I wish he would try something new or just go away.

I expect in the end that's exactly what the remake will be. You might as well not call it Dr. Phibes.

If Depp is Phibes and he can't talk that might actually work... Unless they change it so Phibes talks that is.

What is so bad about Burton doing this? Yeah his track record has been lousy for the last 13 years, but this project is one where his sense of humor would actually work. Anybody else would probably miss how tongue in cheek the original was and would turn it into torture porn. It's only drawback to me is Depp, and that is really only because he uses him too freaking much.

I am not a Tim Burton fan, but this one get me excited. I don't mind that he use Depp once more, I guess I am in a minority here :)

If this will be anything like the Dark Shadows film... this is going to be so corny.

I do like Tim Burton, but mostly his older stuff.

It'll be yet another Burton/Depp flamboyant concoction of misery that will somehow win two Oscars for makeup and costume design.

I don't care what anyone says. Sweeney Todd was a masterpiece.

actually, i dug on sweeny todd too. if its more sweeny todd and less dark shadows, then it has a...small...very SMALL...possibility of not being constipatingly bad. Burton is obviously a Price fan, so he may actually try to do justice by the man. Although, it remains to be seen if Burton has any conception of what that phrase actually means....
